I’m interested in joining a local Board of Directors as a volunteer for a non-profit like Big Brother Big Sisters, Boy Scouts, YMCA, etc (or smaller even). I’m early in my accounting career, but I’ve owned multi-unit franchises, managed sales operations, and at one time was kind of active in my previous community.

How do you find those opportunities? I’m not from my current area, so I’m kind of light on connections. Just call? Google and LinkedIn haven’t really yielded anything.

So I just got my first full time job in my field and it feels great, but I feel like I got put in a jam being salary so I’m being overly used (65+ hrs a week) and under paid for this position for my education/experience. Communication isn’t important as I thought it was for management and the people in the industry that get paid $15/hr haven’t gotten a raise and they’ve worked there over 2+ years.
