The only people who don't believe that sexism/racism/gender inequality exists in this industry have been fortunate enough to never experience it for themselves.

You work at JPM....there are groups specifically set up to help train and place everyone except white guys. To list them, BOLD, women on the move, pride, Adelante (Hispanic), advancing black leaders, AsPire (asian), and WIN (also a women's group). Also, it's sexist/racist of you to label the industry as such. If you see something truly wrong, then point it out and everyone would be on your side. Don't just make blanket statements like that to increase tension.

like

@JPM1 if you are disagreeing that white male folks don't dominate the industry, you are either nuts or lying to yourself

like

CS1, nepotism is not racism/sexism. Inv An 1, that happens to be the case because there are far more white male applicants than other groups of people. To force it to be equally diverse would be marxist. There is not a secret effort from white guys to exclude all minorities. White guys think of themselves as individuals trying to move their career forward just like everyone else. My previous reply was demonstrating the efforts made from this mostly white male industry to push diversity.

^I do the screening for coops and first years from my school in partnership with HR.. just because you're not involved, that doesn't mean it's a lie. Get some facts

like

@jpmc1 you're saying there aren't groups within the industry that are specifically designed to be feeder programs based on nepotism and prestige rather than merit?

like

^how do you know the vast majority of applicants? You're in banking, not HR. So either (a) you're lying or (b) you've gained unauthorized access to HR's systems. Neither is a good look for you.

@JP1 I don't know about your region, but for me a large majority of the applicants are not white... yet still my bank is 80% white. Just saying

Yes, there are definitely great initiatives in place. I never would deny that, but there are certainly undertones and microagressions that people face on a daily basis.

Amen to that. Sexism stronger in our group, not like we can say anything though. It's kinda astounding that a senior VP gets treated worse than an associate...

^ let's hear your specific examples that were reported and ignored. Otherwise, go back under your bridge.

Serious question - why don’t B schools treat everyone the same? Why is it harder for males? Why is it harder for Asians/Indians? I think each application should be viewed on its merits and gender and race shouldn’t be a factor at all. Thoughts?

Not trying to start an argument, actually just curious, but isnt the whole pronoun thing being taken overboard? I would think it really only applies to people who are transitioning because you want to be respectful of that person. But like…old bald man Bob in accounting…we know ur a dude. Also, I have a gender neutral name myself (im a guy) but couldn’t care less if someone accidentally thought I was a woman over an email or even in person. Curious to hear peoples thoughts.

Something I’m struggling with as it relates to the rise of the “Karens”. I get it, Karens suck and are very real but why is it that women always have to deal with this kind of stereotype? Men, especially Trumpian white men, are just as bad about their own privilege. Maybe they handle it differently or maybe people are less inclined to record them? I don’t know. But somehow it feels like yet another divide between women. Just wish we could make it less about gender and more about privilege.

Hi ladies, I need some advice on how to navigate/build a relationship with my fiance's family. Some of his siblings and family members are very standoffish and distant. For background, we are same race different culture. I'm very open and I've learned a lot from my fiance over the years. However, I believe his family still sees me as an outsider and they don't invite me to certain things. At times, it feels isolating and it makes me feel unwelcomed.
