The people that always seem “on.” Working out, engaged at work, traveling all the time, having great weekends....how do you do it? Do you sleep? Don’t you get sick and feel like crap? Seriously asking

It’s likely just the optics and what you can observe. Everyone has rough days, needs alone time, has personal problems, etc.

Can’t speak for others, but I get into a depressive state if I don’t keep myself occupied

Just try to be as efficient as possible at your job so that you can spend as much time doing things you enjoy as possible - Work avg ~50-55 hrs, pretty much no weekends. Really try to not go beyond that - At work, plan ahead on everything and minimize mistakes. Don’t do low value work. Set your teams up for success. Keep a positive mentality so you’re not wasting energy that’s not productive - Sleep at least 7 hrs for peak performance - Do super efficient work outs when low on time during the week. Otherwise, exercise extra on weekends - Set up social events on Thurs / Fri / weekends or do weekend travel - Outsource when needed (e.g. babysitters or pet sitters, food delivery, etc)

Some people are just that good. I know one guy, made partner in 3 years, races cars at the weekends, beautiful family, etc. Another gal advises the military, part time program, extra time with her family, made partner early, despite being part time. I am SO not those people.

If you have a family, and it’s going well, it’s typically because you have a very accommodating spouse

Specifically you MBB folks - long crazy hours, but still time to work out, have a social life, do extracurricular activities on weekends, have kids. Like jeez - HOW?!

As they say “McKinsey hires people that used to be interesting”

For every 10 PI cases you have handled over the years, how many were cases where you actually helped somebody (client wouldn’t have gotten the result without a lawyer) versus how many just added attorney’s fees and medical treatment that the client probably didn’t really need or didn’t really benefit from (just more expenses in their settlement award)?

Has anyone taken Wellbutrin and experienced side effects? I’m 3 weeks into trying it out, and it’s worked better and faster than my prior antidepressants. But this week I’ve started experiencing pretty nasty dizziness/vertigo, which came on suddenly Monday morning. I don’t know if it’s just the latest physical symptom of burnout (which has been making me sick a lot lately) or if I’m experiencing some kind of side effect from the new meds.

Looking for advice on this: I bought a house (in the five boroughs) in 2017 and turns out my neighbor (let’s call him the Antagonist) two doors down has some serious beef with the neighbor between us. It got to the point where the Antagonist started to imagine that I (and the previous owner of my house) am somehow colluding to steal his driveway (nobody is). Now, I could just dismiss him as a mentally ill person, but he’s sane enough to keep making spurious complaints to the DOB and DEP (contd)

I have been working in HR since 2004. I have a bachelor's degree but it is not in HR, it's in a medical/technical field. My entire career in HR has been on the job training and I have worked besides people with HR degrees doing the same things they do. What extra skills do you think your HR degree gives you that you wouldn't have without the degree?

At Deloitte now. laid off last year while on medical leave. Landed a new job with the help of a senior mentor and vouched for me not knowing my medical limitations. I just had to take sick leave again on the first project out of the gate. Dr is recommending 40 hours a week which will not fit the requirements of my director role. I feel like I need to switch roles to a non client facing role to be realistic in my health limitations. How do I make the switch and have the convo with w my mentor?

We have sales people in Canada and the US, the Canadians make 150K CAD and down here it’s 150K USD, the Canadians argue they should be making 30% more than the US colleagues to be equal bc of the exchange! I explain the salary is dependent on the market data for them in Canada, WHERE THEY LIVE, and you can’t compare it to the US employees and the market data down here. Overall they are both in the 75th% for total comp. for their industry. Am I wrong?

CMV: The era of traveling consultants is over. Yes, life will go back to normal and travel will be safe again, but not until enough time/experience has passed for consulting firms and clients to realize the weekly on-site travel is unnecessary. Limited travel will still exist and maybe more at senior levels. Regional/local travel will be the norm. Consulting will remain a popular career starter for exit opps and continued high pay, but not for travel/expense perks.
