Social Justice In Education - A Q&A on 10/9

The social justice challenges in education are quite apparent in STEM subjects (student preparedness, achievement, etc). I want to hear from other teachers abt how they manage this.

This is a super important question, especially because Matt is one of the big gate keepers. Even though I sometimes have problems with the common core standards, I have found that my math teachers from elementary through high school appreciate the approach that is more about deep math understanding than about learning algorithms and just plug and chug. A lot of students just aren’t motivated for math, and I have found the most successful teachers run the class like a series of puzzles and games, tapping in to student fascination with video games. Of course, it can’t be always be that fun but certainly I have seen that atmosphere engage more students
