A comma would help here. I read this as the best lawyers are doing guys who practice M&A. Which can't be true bc anyone in M&A has no time for extracurriculars.

Hi People,

I wanted to ask a query on how consultants work. A friend of mine is working for a company in Toronto. The work is super hectic. She works for about 12 hours per day. Also, they say she’s not allowed to take days off for a year. Is this even legal?

Work at a firm that's slightly below market. FY ends October 31 and I'm going to be probably 15-20 hours short of the next bonus tier. What are the odds it'll get rounded up? I have time if I scrap a couple of vacation days I planned to take next week for a wedding, but I'd rather take vacation AND hit the next level bonus, lol.

For those of you who took the bar exam while working, how did you manage to study and work? I'm trying to lateral to a different jurisdiction with a state specific exam (UGH, why can't everyone just administer the UBE?!), but my bar status seems to be a huge deterrent in my interviews. I'm weighing the idea of taking it, passing, and then try to lateral again. However, I'm concerned that it'll just be a waste of time and I'll fail if I try to study AND work at my current job.

Any advice?

MULTIPLE juniors: if I ask you to do something “today” on Friday morning, don’t just ignore it. I don’t care how much you hate biglaw and this is just your paycheck. “Sorry, I can’t get to this today, but can handle Monday” is a response. “Sorry, I’m slammed and can’t get to this today, would you be able to handle?” is a response. Believe it or not, I am a human being, and you know I go out of my way to be a good manager/mentor. You are taking too much advantage of knowing I always cover.

Does higher vault ranking (v10-30 compared to v80-100) open more doors for corporate in-house opportunities for a senior associate? If chambers practice area rankings and expected billable hours are similar and they offer the same DPW pay scale, does it matter less? Is it better to stay at/lateral to a firm where you might be able last longer to learn the necessary skills? Any personal anecdote or advice would be appreciated. Thank you.
