the meds and said hopefully it would stabilize and the symptom won’t get worse. I’m sitting with her at the porch now and don’t know if she gets any better. What should I do?Please pray for her. I’m really not ready to let her go..
Heartbreaking, but i went with stabilization until it was clear she was suffering too much. In my case it was kidney failure and she was losing strength fast. Enjoy your time and monitor the level of suffering if any, since at that age its not even sure they would survive an operation or treatment :(
Let it run its course but when she appears to be in pain put her down. I refuse to put mine through that kind of treatment. It is absolute hell for them and all for maybe a year of life.
It doesn’t make the decision easier but you can’t be selfish.
14 years is good life for a pup. let her live it out until she's suffering and then do the right thing. hopefully she goes on her own at the right time peacefully at home. until then give her all the pets and treats you can and live the best life.
Sorry to hear it OP
Thank you very much for sharing this. I’m sorry to hear that you lost yours.
Agree with EY 1. As long as she doesn’t seem to be suffering, do the treatment. I wouldn’t do any extreme surgeries or procedures but if she seems happy and comfortable, do what you can’t. You will know when it’s time, even if it’s the hardest thing to do.
Praying for her! Sorry you're going through this, OP.
Sorry to hear OP - we went through the same thing with our senior dog last year. What type of cancer does the vet think it is? Don’t give up hope - not all canine cancers are created equal and some can be effectively managed for years without invasive treatments and chemo. Our dog had bladder cancer and we managed it with peroxicam (an NSAID) for 2.5 years and she had good quality of life.
Same happened to me about 4 months ago
Unfortunately you’ll never be ready. Enjoy the time you have left with her but trust your instincts when you see she’s suffering too much.
Make a calendar for each week, good days get a smiley face bad days get a frown. When there are more frowns that smileys in a weeks its time
Ugh I’m so sorry to hear this. It’s so awful. A dogs love in unconditional. Enjoy your time left but don’t let her be in pain, you will never be ready but when you know it’s fine, you will know.
Saw this post after three years. She survived another three years and died this past summer. I miss her very much.
