The worst past about being a senior associate is I have the responsibilities of a partner but also still get associate tasks. For example, I have a two-week jury trial coming up with damages in the mid 7-figures yet I’m still being given tedious discovery and answers to prepare on partner’s cases when I don’t have any time, at the expense of my own cases.

I also get frustrated with the differing expectations of a senior. On some cases, I’m basically left alone to figure it out; on others, I’m treated like a junior associate and can’t breathe without someone telling me to. I’d love a balance between the two.

Same.

Discovery shouldn’t take that much bandwidth

Right. They’re much more manageable then trial prep, but I have a trial to prepare for with a dozen witnesses and tons of motions in limine, I still don’t have the time.

A bit freaked out by my “generalist” approach to litigation so far. Almost two years in and couldn’t really say I’m that “good” in any one area.

Don’t really have my own clients, and I feel like in order for me to gain the confidence necessary to obtain them, I need to specialize in SOMETHING.

Million dollar question - any areas of litigation seen as being a good specialty to get into now/for the future?
