Very normal. This year has been very difficult because my department is short a teacher and has been a revolving door for a while now. I am drowning in work and admin are next to useless. My best advise is to determine if you want to continue teaching or if you are done. However, ask yourself this when you are in a good mood and can make an objective decision. Good luck to you and don't feel
guilty if you decide that teaching is not for you. Your mental and emotional health are more important than anything a job can offer.
Agreed, it’s very normal. Our days are so extreme, some are amazing and some are so draining. It’s taken me years to learn to balance my emotions and not be too affected by one day
I know it sounds cliche, but try to remember that tomorrow is a new day. I have ups and downs, and I’ve had years that were more down than up, but what you can be sure of in this profession is that nothing stays the same. You can’t control some factors, but you can control your reactions. Try not to be too critical or hard on yourself. It will get easier in that the more experience you gain and lesson plans you have written, the easier the prep will be and you will be more confident in your teaching and decision-making.
I’ve had years I’ve thought about giving it all up. I’m glad I stuck it out but not necessarily at the school making me stressed out. 😊
It's normal, but not necessarily healthy. Remember you're more than the job, and you deserve time for yourself.
If it's one class, well, as Harry Wong says, "For those students, June will come."
If it's the administration, talk to your union.
If it's your colleagues, reach out to your subject-based professional organization to ask colleagues in other districts if they have the same issues.
Me having a bad day+ my students having a bad day = Hell Day. Go home, watch bad tv, glass of wine optional, get to sleep early and try again tomorrow. PS don’t bring home any lessons or grading! It can wait 1 day!!
It happens. I usually have at least one class period that I dread....and it's usually because of 1-2 students in there. Sad! But then, there have been a year here or there where I didn't dread any of my classes!
It is
Completely normal. Sometimes even for a year... hang in there
I feel the same way almost every day!
