Many attorneys would be happy at the 1400-1600 billable hours a year. Yes, you’d make less money, but you’ll also have good work/life balance and plenty of vacation.
Great idea, but there’s a reason Biglaw is moslty uniform in rates, hours, culture (and service) and it’s called capitalism.
Once you’ve made the effort to build a firm Fortune 500 clients trust to bet their companies, you bet I’m going to demand maximum effort from everyone.
Also in-house at a Fortune 500 some of the biggest firms are honestly the most disappointing. They charge exorbitant amounts and take too long to get back to me with a long drawn out response I didn’t ask for. If I’m going to OC it’s for a check on something I think is in a grey area or a problem I just don’t have the bandwidth/time to do legal research into. I need a concise answer and quick turnaround. I’m willing to pay more but would also be happy to pay less for better service from a smaller firm.

Obviously, if you have small amount of debt, no family or only married w/o kids, and no mortgage or a small one, that would be ideal. Then you don’t have to worry too much the first 1-2 years about the billables. You offer the same service as the big firms at a significantly lower cost.
