There are many intelligent attorneys on this app with experience in big law. Why not band together and start our own firm from ground up, offer great service at low rates? New culture & new approach.

Many attorneys would be happy at the 1400-1600 billable hours a year. Yes, you’d make less money, but you’ll also have good work/life balance and plenty of vacation.

Great idea, but there’s a reason Biglaw is moslty uniform in rates, hours, culture (and service) and it’s called capitalism.

Once you’ve made the effort to build a firm Fortune 500 clients trust to bet their companies, you bet I’m going to demand maximum effort from everyone.

like

Also in-house at a Fortune 500 some of the biggest firms are honestly the most disappointing. They charge exorbitant amounts and take too long to get back to me with a long drawn out response I didn’t ask for. If I’m going to OC it’s for a check on something I think is in a grey area or a problem I just don’t have the bandwidth/time to do legal research into. I need a concise answer and quick turnaround. I’m willing to pay more but would also be happy to pay less for better service from a smaller firm.

Obviously, if you have small amount of debt, no family or only married w/o kids, and no mortgage or a small one, that would be ideal. Then you don’t have to worry too much the first 1-2 years about the billables. You offer the same service as the big firms at a significantly lower cost.

Hi all,
I am currently working in a small company as embedded system lead software engineer. I am not excellent but I am good at what I am doing.I joined last year with 13.5 lpa(all in hand) with 45% hike, after joining i realised it was a mistake as the culture was toxic. so I started looking for job from January onwards. After multiple trials I have an offer from endurance company pune. But the offer they are offering is less According to me just 25% hike(with variable).
Any suggestions on this

I've always operated off the standard that I would give any role a year. Meaning, if the job isn't what I expected or culture is a bit 'meh', I'll give it a go a year. Does anyone else have a similar standard for themselves? Or is time to valuable and if the role isn't right in the beginning it's unlikely to get better.

While speaking with a manager trying to describe micromanagement from a team member, my role as a senior designer was described in paraphrase as, “Well as directors we are designers too, and so you become the Wacom tool, and we can sit next to you and tell you how to design the project or live direct the development over zoom”. I reiterated that this doesn’t reflect trust or respect in my abilities and my role was again described as a tool.

I a 5th yearer and I feel that my work is sometimes not as good as my peers. Part of it stems from having a very broad practice (pe/vc work, listings, cap markets, M&A, gen comm and start-up work) and I’m a master of none. I went for an interview - they didn’t seem impressed by my experience; even asked me to consider going in house :( Where I am at, there’s little guidance & supervision, in part because I’m seen as mid-level. Anyone has the same experience and how did you get out of this.
