There have been a lot of posts in the law and big law blog about legal recruiter comp. It seems to range a lot (saw second-hand info from $60k to over a million). Also saw someone say the “average” recruiter makes more than a 5th year biglaw associate (which I think would mean $400k+). Can anyone provide ballpark numbers? Considering eventually moving to recruiting, but couldn’t leave to do it for $60k.

The fee for an attorney making $200K is $50K. It adds up quick depending on the roles you chose to focus on. $60K sounds like staff recruiting ie temps and assistants.

Always happy to help attorneys find alterna-legal positions, feel free to DM too. How much you see comes down to the company you choose. They range from 40%-70%. If you are on your own, obviously you keep all of it. We negotiate with the firms on refunds if an attorney were to leave, rarely will an associate or partner leave before the refund period. Usually 6 months at the most. You decide what terms you want with the firm.

On paper there’s good earning potential, but in reality it’s not as easy as it sounds. There is a finite number of jobs to fill and a set pool of placeable candidates. Add to that the huge number of recruiters vying for those candidates/jobs. It’s very similar to the realtor world.

Have you considered switching to national? The jobs are endless and there’s many small markets with very little recruiters. Even places like Philly, Boston, Seattle, Nashville don’t have a lot of competition.

$50-$60,000 is the base that you’ll probably get paid. You make the majority of your money in placements/commissions. So for the first year you may make a small amount but across the board anyone I know who made the jump - it was very lucrative in years 2 and beyond.

Oh those are coordinators, the recruiter’s assistants. The recruiters cover different regions and roles. Not just one and a bunch of junior assistants. These firms are massive.
