OP, as a Muslim woman who grew up in India, lived in Europe and finally in the US, while I appreciate your sentiment but you must understand that people aren’t ‘islamophobic’ because of terror attacks rather super conservative beliefs associated with Islam, and our lack adaptation to cultures in Europe or USA.
To name few that I experienced:
- Not supporting homosexuality
- Preaching highly unequal women rights or lack of thereof such as triple talaq in India, polygamy for men, inheritance restrictions for women
- Burqua practice which is then paraded as ‘female choice’
- My cousins in Saudi faced even severe restrictions
- Inability to separate religion from state, which is the tenet of multiple European societies
- High intolerance towards other religions while preaching supremacy of our own
While there are religious conservatives everywhere but in my experience I found more so in Islam and specially the degree of conservativeness.
So if you are a Muslim, and truly want the world to appreciate our culture, first start by altering and opening yourself to newer and more progressive world views.
BCG 1 - You hit it out of the park. Bravo !
I’m in agreement with BCG1. I grew up in the Middle East and moved to States for higher studies many years ago. And honestly if my father, my family would not have supported my decision to continue to strive hard to achieve my dreams, my career, I wouldn’t be where I am today. I am a practicing Muslim but I am more than just a Muslim and I know that if I ever go back home, I will be shamed for everything I have achieved because I did not follow their conservative rules.
So start by supporting your women, your family members at home. And we can grow as a community together. Build bridges with other communities regardless of their religion, race, sexual preferences. Look at humans as humans and not as hindu/muslim/jews etc.
BCG1: Muslim male here and I agree 💯
Are there any Islamic leaders who are tying to change the hardcore philosophy, making folks tolerant to other religions, highlight importance of education etc? Asking because it will help highlight their efforts.
Welp! This simple logic is very hard for some people to grasp.
People are not scared of other religions as long as they are open to adapt and criticism and mingle with other religions.. if your religion is restrictive and doesn’t adapt resulting in isolated communities, you will face opposition..

If one terrorist doesn't represent the religion, then neither does one scientist. We can and we should celebrate the success of these scientists once the vaccines lead us to normal life again.
Let's build their statues, have awards and holidays named after them. However that should not stop us from criticizing any religion and those who use religion to divide people.

I pasted an image above of Islamaphobia on this bowl (you can read the entire comment), but an excerpt demonizing an entire community from that comment is : "They start with 5 - 10% then they start asking for minority rights. Soon they will become 40 - 50% and start asking for shariah"
An example of a criticism might be - " I don't agree with the allowance in Islam of 4 wives, I think that it shows Islam to be patriarchal"
BCG1 made a good point but not all families are the same. My family is so supportive and encouraging. Don’t blame the religion, blame the culture, which we need to fix from within, start with our families.
The Prophet’s wife was a businesswomen :)

To be clear, healthy discussions are ok. As are criticisms, but not Islamaphobia. Please see the attached comment from the bowl that initiated my post:

Yep same page !
BCG1 is spot on. And I say this as a liberal Pakistani Muslim, but Muslim nonetheless
