If your state/district doesn't offer some kind of compensation, I don't see a problem using them on the way out.
They've been earned during your career, and if they try to fire you you'll be retired by the time the legal battle works itself out.
I'm currently on maternity leave. Before taking the leave I was feeling guilty about leaving for a while. This is my 2nd baby in 2 years. I didn't take leave for my 1st because she was born in the middle of May during covid closures and I had summer with her. With my 2nd born in November I hesitantly decided to take all 12 weeks of leave. Though I knew admin was kind of against it. She never said it to me but she did voice it to a colleague of mine. Now that I'm on leave with both my babies I almost don't want to return!
There are “small” people, then there are “smaller” people ... the “smaller” never learn to keep their own counsel!
I knew a teacher that was leaving the field and was out more often than at school. There is a cash incentive now to not use any sick days, but not sure it's worth it. I don't think I could just use them lall ike that though. I wouldn't feel right.
I know teachers like that, but for me, I would only use the days if I need them. Just like my personal days - I use them if I need them, but if they expire without being used, so be it. Other people are entitled to their own opinions.
We were just told that no absences would be approved unless it is an emergency 😐.
If we don’t use our personal days we can either cash it out for a big amount of $50 apiece. lol. Otherwise we can turn it into a sick day for the next year.
Enjoy that while you can. My district stopped doing that the year that I retired.
I plan to use EVERY one of mine this year.
