Take your show on the road. Being a female attorney is hard enough without a difficult paralegal. I’d tell the firm that you either give me a different paralegal or I’m out.

Continued: I get a call from my paralegal, pissed that this other paralegal complained to a partner claiming that my paralegal and I were talking crap about her on Friday. My paralegal took the day off Friday so wasn’t even working or in the office. I was so busy that I hardly spoke to anyone. This isn’t the first time this paralegal has made up a lie like this and I’m sure it won’t be the last. The partners placate her and the rest of us have to shift how we react, or take on more work so that she feels more comfortable. I was asked to go into the office to “chat” with one of the partners about Friday. What would you do?

Thanks. I did just that. Explained it honestly and was told they don’t believe me. Guess I’m moving on. No one needs that toxicity.

Good luck to those who are going into their first busy season! Yes, it’s daunting at first - we’ve all been there (albeit, not in a remote environment amidst a pandemic.) My best advice is to take one day at a time (marathon, not a sprint). Remember audit/tax/consulting is not life or death, and you WILL make it through. Have patience with yourself and your teams. Find a mentor! Don’t forget you can always find some moral support (read: self-deprecating humor) in your fellow fish!
