The process of getting my National Board Certification was the best and most reflective PD I’ve ever gone through. As with any PD or degree, what you take back to the classroom is up to you. I know my teaching has improved since being certified.
I’m beginning the process and have no desire to correlate my (hopefully) certification with evaluative excellence. For me, it’s about continuing to grow in my practice. The cert was offered to IL teachers for free, so why not?
It's a long intense process but it made me become more reflective in my teaching. Definitely some of the best PD you give yourself.
Unfortunately, it’s the ONLY way to guarantee a raise in my school district. That’s the only reason I’m even going to put myself through this. Pay $2,500 to get $5,000.
same here ☝️
It has to be better than no self learning at all. I loved the process although quite lengthy
It was a wonderful experience to really dissect my teaching and my students learning. It was grueling but worth it. My certification is in Early and Middle childhood Literacy Reading and Language Arts
Absolutely the best PD I’ve done. Much more reflective now, and also better at developing relationships with my students. I believe as I grow as a teacher the better experience my students will have. And, yes I complained through the entire process but would encourage everyone to do it.
