There is so much more power play or politics going on since COVID19...Everyone seems to be on edge... It's becoming quite toxic.. Does anyone have a book or something that could help me work it?

Thanks for clarifying. Before the book recommendation, I’ll share some perspective.
- The toxic edge is real. There’s a lot of fear in the collective consciousness. What I suspect is going on within organizational life, specifically in PA- fears about job security and not having the right answers. The BS story the billable hour conveys: the more you know, the more you bill, the greater your value. The result of this story is often a tremendous amount of discomfort being in the unknown. Welp, a pandemic has thrust all of us into a lot of uncertainty. People who have little facility navigating the gray are really struggling right now.
- All you can control is you. People may be shady, competitive, cut throat, you name it. You can’t control any of that. I’m reminded of a variation of the serenity prayer: “God, grant me the serenity to accept the people I cannot change, the courage to change the one I can,
and the wisdom to know that one is me.”
- I’d encourage you to anchor into your mission and stay clear on your course. Check out Glennon Doyle’s “Untamed”. Her ideas about finding your own inner knowing, doing one hard thing at a time, and creating your own beautiful life might help a lot.
Thanks for asking and being courageous enough to say I don’t know how. This is how we grow.

I find that ppl are just fighting to win work sometimes forgetting about qualified individuals on other teams that could really add value to the client...I guess the hardest thing for me right now is not getting emotionally involved in the tactics played behind the scenes. It can be extremely draining and I don’t want to make enemies...

I agree that people are on edge. What parts do you want help with? Or what’s your greatest challenge with all of this?

Can't recommend 'Nonviolent Communication' enough. There are so many tools for communicating without being subjective and how to combat toxic communications.

CS thank you! It was a difficult one to post out here. I just wrote the serenity prayer you shared on my laptop screen to make sure I stay grounded. I will also check out « Untamed » . I’ll take it in as a learning experience to make sure I grow from it.

Here is a good book that explains how office politics work and you can use this knowledge to protect yourself. Consulting business hires a lot of competitive and ambitious individuals, so people tend to become political when times are tough.

Accepted an offer of employment with a mid-sized firm to begin in a couple of months. I’ve always wanted to shoot for big law but haven’t had the opportunity thus far. Overall, I accepted because I didn’t want to take the opportunity for granted in addition to the uncertainty with hiring due to covid. Would it be an issue to shoot for a big law opportunity in the interim? I know how this looks and sounds, so I definitely don’t want to set a precedent that I deal in bad faith.
