Does it include a round of golf?

Doesn’t sound too expensive to me. May or may not be a good networking opportunity.

It says chipping, putting, and driving range. In person hands on instruction will almost always have better outcomes than self taught YouTube videos. Especially for someone who doesn’t even know what chipping is.

And the $200 is just for the event. I also have to get there from my city which could perhaps be another $100 or so round trip (commuter train tickets plus apparently a $25 Lyft each way).

Apparently, the place "plays host to many USGA, MGA and WGA events including the USGA Amateur Sectional Qualifier (2013), the MGA Senior Amateur Championship (2014), and the US Open Sectional Qualifier (2017)."

As a side note what should I wear? I'm a woman. I have these athleisure dresses I got online that look more like tennis dresses. Can those work for golf? Maybe with a sweater if it's cool?

Will I have to bring a change of clothes for the cocktails and dinner?

That attire should be fine. Might be an amateur take, but I don't think changing for dinner is a must. Given that the event is centered around golf I think it's pretty reasonable to carry that attire over to the cocktail and dinner portion. As a guy I wouldn't feel the need to change unless the club's dress code required me to (e.g, golf shorts allowed on the course but not in a dining room).

Mistakes are the learned lessons to a better career. But every time I have made a mistake, it seems like it is the end of the world. I want to hear stories...of a time where you made a mistake and your superiors did not freak out, but used it as a lesson for you. does that exist anywhere?

Any families here with kid(s) without a car? Currently my husband and I live & work in downtown. We've never owned a car & are going back and forth on whether we need one once baby arrives - esp bc even resale cars are $$$ right now.

I'm walking distance (15min) from my family doctor & the hospital I'd deliver at.

I think down the road we'll need one to drive to lessons, etc , but hopefully the current dynamic increasing car prices will decrease by then...Is a car necessary in the 1st yr?

Anyone in recommend a place to take golf lessons?

To all the new teachers out there- the most important thing you can learn is classroom management. I’m working with someone who doesn’t quite get it. Often lessons devolve into chaos. It seems to be as long as the kids are enjoying it - then it’s ok. You also need to learn is to help out - to help set up, help pick up, help in whatever ways are needed. Don’t wait to be asked. Put down the freaking phone and pay attention! Finally, try to learn from your coworkers. You don’t know it all!

MbaExcel by Matthew Kuo is a great site for excel tips. At least for a barely user like me.
Thanks for the quick and easy tip/lesson on Index Match! Online was doing it wrong and I'd been trying out for almost 40 min. MbaExcel got it working in 5 min flat 🥳
Thank you Matthew!

I’m a 5th year. The unpredictability of this job (constantly canceling on your friends, unable to go to dinner with your partner without worrying about getting emails, etc) is making me rethink my priorities. I’m the kind of person who is ok flying economy, staying at Airbnbs and not 5* hotels, I have no loans. I could live well with half the money. What are the reasons to stay, other than the fact that I like being a lawyer and the practice I work in is not something done at small/solo firms?
