There's a $200 golf networking event at some country club. Considering how important playing golf was in my previous company I'm inclined to go - but it's so expensive and then I have to get to the place which will be commuter train tickets plus an approximately $25 Lyft *each way*. Plus I think I might have to buy special golf clothes.

I'd be going for the golf lessons starting at 2PM and it includes a cocktail reception and dinner. The companies sponsoring seem meh. Is it worth it?

Any families here with kid(s) without a car? Currently my husband and I live & work in downtown. We've never owned a car & are going back and forth on whether we need one once baby arrives - esp bc even resale cars are $$$ right now.

I'm walking distance (15min) from my family doctor & the hospital I'd deliver at.

I think down the road we'll need one to drive to lessons,etc , but hopefully the current dynamic increasing car prices will decrease by then...Is a car necessary in the 1st yr?

To all the new teachers out there- the most important thing you can learn is classroom management. I’m working with someone who doesn’t quite get it. Often lessons devolve into chaos. It seems to be as long as the kids are enjoying it - then it’s ok. You also need to learn is to help out - to help set up, help pick up, help in whatever ways are needed. Don’t wait to be asked. Put down the freaking phone and pay attention! Finally, try to learn from your coworkers. You don’t know it all!

I’m a 5th year. The unpredictability of this job (constantly canceling on your friends, unable to go to dinner with your partner without worrying about getting emails, etc) is making me rethink my priorities.
