Our district just put out a presentation where they clearly showed our COVID numbers put us in the yellow zone. That means we should freeze our return with the last cohort (MS and HS) and wait.
Nope! They said meh and are sending the next cohort back Nov 9. All 60,000 kids will be back. Meanwhile the other major counties in the area have all voted to wait until February or not come back at all.
We need new leadership at the top
Of course. They need childcare so they can get back to work.
Yes and now we are blended but I ask how many of you deal with 100 people a day in an enclosed space
I want us to open full time. I am so over virtual. I have too many kids not doing well virtually. My theatre program is gasping for breath. I am doing far too much for minimal results. My admin and school are great, but I am not made for this. Life needs to move on. Get kids back in school and let life go on. I know its not a popular opinion, but enough is enough.
If I go back at 60 years old, I am at risk. I put my 70 year old partner at risk. I won’t be able to see anyone in my family so that I can teach punctuation? I don’t think so. We have 50 positive cases in my county school system since the end of August, and high schools are even back yet- and still they want to open. This is crazy. So what if they aren’t doing well in virtual school? So what if your program has a bad year? Which student would you be willing to sacrifice? Which coworker? Which family member? Oh, but- you don’t get to pick one. It might be your favorite. It may be your spouse who dies. Is it worth that? Or maybe you get it, and you become a long hauler. Can you afford to be out of work for seven months? Do you have that much sick leave? My county allows two weeks. If I test positive one time, symptoms or no, I’m out of sick leave. What happens then? What if your symptoms don’t end? If “long haul” becomes the rest of your life? Are you willing to risk that for everyone in your school so that you can have a spring play? I don’t understand how anyone sees that as a viable option. And we just have no idea with this virus. The latest development shows that the virus can cause a lifelong condition like lupus, where your body attacks itself. For the rest of your shortened life, you’d be in pain from the inside, watching the virus attack your joints, your muscles, and finally your organs. Sorry, but I won’t wish that on my worst enemy, much less my students, my family, or myself.
yes
I am tired and over Corona at this point myself. My students aren’t truly learning either but I do want to keep others safe. At this point I feel that maybe we should just stay out of school until numbers decline to almost nothing. It’s not like we have a high standard of learning across the state. We give students a 50 even if we have never seen them or had any contact with them, it’s just because they are on our roster. Students decide when and what they want to do or turn in. The students that work hard and do their best will be the ones that succeed, the others will continue to struggle until they learn how to work for what they want. Sorry for the tangent...just wish I could make a change for the better that’s why I began teaching.
Yes, there is a "open fcps" movement here.
We are bringing back hundreds more kids at the end of November with 3 ft social distancing. We are in the dark red and cases continue to rise sharply, daily. They don't care. Bring them back they say.
