Thing I lowballed myself badly when the recruiter asked what my ideal salary expectation is, ugh. Has anyone ever done this, how did you negotiate higher when you got the offer?

I’m not sure how you even approach them and say “I asked for x, and you met it, so now I’m going to ask for y too” without sounding like a beggar. If I’m a hiring manager and we meet someone’s demands, and they come back with even more demands, I’m going to tell them to take the original or leave it.

Always start high. Have them bring you down. I'm not sure if it's too late to adjust, but reach out to the recruiter

like

If you truly think you’re worth more, tell them. If they do t agree then why would you want to work at a place that doesn’t value you the way you value yourself?

like

Honestly, just don’t give them your expectation. Say you want something that’s equitable with others doing the same work and then let them come back to you with an offer

like

Have you already interviewed and got the offer in hand? You could always say you received another opportunity for more and say you really would rather work for them and see if they could “match the offer”

like

No reason to lie. Either you believe you’re worth more and you tell them that and live with the consequence (increase or revocation of offer) or you accept the salary because you don’t truly believe you’re worth the extra cash.

Honestly it’s better to dance around those kinds of questions as best you can. I had a form that said the salary amount I currently make was a required field before they would offer. Luckily it was free text so I wrote in not willing to provide. Then the recruiters try and ask and at best I give a wide range.

For your situation it going to be hard to negotiate for more. What makes you think you lowballed yourself? Your best bet would be to say that it’s not enough for you make a change currently with that salary. Seems like you pretty much have to decline the offer if you think you are worth more.

I basically said my expectation is not to make anything lower that my current rate at ... horrible wording, and just dumb when I think about it in hindsight.

like

That’s fine and it’s just the recruiter. When you actually interview, give the interviewer a salary range. When they offer you the position, that’s when you decide to take it or negotiate if it’s too low.

I don’t think it’s too late if it really is less than what you are worth. The recruiter knows the market and should not be surprised that you would ask for more. In fact, i think you should address it as soon as you can and not wait for an offer. Let them know that after further evaluation, you believe that your salary should be ..... of course, it has to be reasonable.

Yeah unless you’re currently very unhappy leaving for the same amount of money doesn’t make much sense

You can always throw in the “I just received an offer elsewhere” card. Ask them to match the compensation expectations.

Internal or external recruiter?

Hello Folks,
I joined Intel Bangalore 2 months ago. I have a few questions I would love if someone from Intel who has been with this company could answer.
1) I am at grade 6 with ~3.5 YOE with compa ratio around 120% which looks higher than average. Will this result in lesser hike for me during appraisal? How much hike can I expect?
2) I received less RSUs compared to other people as I saw from the posts here. Any chance of getting RSUs during appraisal?
3) Any Intl relocation possibility?

I work in accounting/finance and have been at my company for over 10 years. I am planning to leave and put in my notice right after I receive my bonus which is right around when “busy season” starts. Unfortunately more than half of my annual income comes from my bonus. I feel terrible about this because it will cause my team to work extra hours during a busy time, but the company is toxic. Any tips? I don’t want to burn bridges with the non-toxic folks.

I am burning out. My manager forgot her password for a program and blamed me. She said: how do you dare to change my password. I just have access to her account not her personal email. To change a password you need an email and a confirmation code because I am an average person, not a hacker. If I was a hacker I would have used that skill to do something better that change her password or look into her things tbh. I cannot stand her, she is constantly attacking me and seriously ruining my life.
