Where do I start? JK, I love what I do, but there are a few things that get under my skin more than others.
1. Throw me under the bus to save face in front of a Partner or client. While I get it, it still sucks.
2. Wait until the last possible minute to get their part done, without regard to how long it takes for me to do my job, and then ask me a million times why something isn’t ready for filing. Ummm, maybe because YOU didn’t plan well!
3. Act as if their work life balance is worth more than mine.
Second. All of this. I hate when attorneys throw me under the bus to save face. I try so hard to juggle my caseload and I’m not here to be your scapegoat. It’s really rough having to take that.
Top 3 would be:
1. People who ask for things without saying please or thank you
2. Treating you like second class citizens (usually the other side that do this until they realise you can wipe the floor with their Y2 associate)
3. Asking you to do stuff that their PAs get paid to do. I’ve got fee-earning deadlines to meet that don’t include printing your stack of redlines
Treating me like a meaningless, token member of the team. I have a college education. I’m a professional and your peer. So many of my colleagues treat me like a child and it’s humiliating.
When I hear someone say they’re mistreated, I say “simply start looking for another job.” I don’t care who you are, you’re not better than me...period.
