Many #machinelearning algorithms, whether supervised or unsupervised, make use of distance measures.
Take k-NN for example, a technique often used for supervised learning. As a default, it often uses euclidean distance.
By itself, a great distance measure.
Knowing when to use which distance measure can help you go from a poor classifier to an accurate model.

This is virtue signaling at it's best. Our company doesn't even have an official DEI team yet, but even I know better than to try and pull something like this. I wonder what USC's demographics are.
Tilting at windmills here. They're just inventing semantic issues to fight because addressing the actual systemic problems is hard (and will probably impact their bottom line).
This is exactly the sort of thing I don't want to happen where I work, which is why I joined the DEI committee at my job. This happens when the person who should be in the room who you think you're making these decisions on their behalf, isn't. It is exactly why DEI exists, to PREVENT this. What a shame, at an institute of "higher education" smh.
