This is virtue signaling at it's best. Our company doesn't even have an official DEI team yet, but even I know better than to try and pull something like this. I wonder what USC's demographics are.

Tilting at windmills here. They're just inventing semantic issues to fight because addressing the actual systemic problems is hard (and will probably impact their bottom line).

This is exactly the sort of thing I don't want to happen where I work, which is why I joined the DEI committee at my job. This happens when the person who should be in the room who you think you're making these decisions on their behalf, isn't. It is exactly why DEI exists, to PREVENT this. What a shame, at an institute of "higher education" smh.

I’m learning that getting good work across the finish line sometimes requires comfort with being annoying. Pushing back on internal feedback, speaking up when a potential solution comes to mind even if it’s beyond the deadline, etc… Aside from being polite in wording and tone, and expressing genuine thanks and appreciation, is there other advice for how to succeed when you have to be annoying, or to know when not to be and just accept the status quo?

What goes behind the cancellation of a tv show? I know low ratings may be one, but I am under the impression that really popular shows have suffered this fate as well.

Is it a common practice to double deploy consultants ? I.e., bill them 8 hours to client 1 and 2-3 hours at client 2? And do you do that with/without clients knowledge and consent?

My wife and I are both terrible housekeepers and our clutter is overwhelming us. We have two kids under 3 and a wonderful nanny but we need more help at home. How do we throw money at this problem? Where do we start to get ongoing professional help decluttering, organizing, cleaning, etc.? What has worked for you?

Additional Posts in Diversity & Inclusion

I'm in desperate need of tips to get genuine buy in from our predominantly white, male senior leadership to create a more inclusive environment. As is often the case, middle management and below is very diverse and then at Director+ it gets much more homogeneous. So far any real initiatives get shot down in favor of performative actions to post on SM. Is this just how it is, or can we try something different?

In honor of National Voter Registration Day, The New Yorker released the transcript of a previously unpublished interview with James Baldwin, who gave a first-hand account of "Freedom Day 1963," a Black voter-registration drive in Selma, Alabama. Baldwin's descriptions from that day are so vivid and detailed that you can feel the fear and anger of the event. If you have a couple of minutes, I highly recommend you read it.

Do you think diversity training actually works? I can't tell if it's just a way to tick a liability box or if it's actually effective.

How do you deal with your “mentor” being threatened by your performance and gatekeeping information from you? Then turning around and giving you shit for not knowing things… but they don’t tell you anything and there is no way for you to know. My learning and development is being hindered and I’ve felt this for a long time, but coworker just confirmed this is the case. Now that I know I’m not “crazy” for thinking this, how should I approach this?

Working on introducing ERGs at a company- how did your company decide the first ERGs to start with? How did they communicate the start of ERGs and roll out the structure?

Would love to know if anyone has any ERG/BRG resources that have worked for them!

I’ve been given a D&I project for my firm which is ideal because it has always been a passion of mine. In the process I’ve noticed that no one is actually committed to this cause. How do you make management see that it’s not just about writing a check?

Juneteenth is just around the corner. This is the first year I get the day off as a company holiday -- not sure if my company is having any programs or events. How about yours? And if not, are you doing anything on your own to recognize/celebrate this day?

I’m trying to cultivate discussion oriented DEI spaces, any topical themes that would make fun and engaging discussions?

Definitely took the wrong job. I was offered a seriously competitive salary and great benefits to work at a well funded startup, which is great! Turns out the salary and benefits were meant as lowkey bribes to insure I worked at the company without actually doing any work. Every single suggestion I've made has been shut down and I've been ghosted for several meetings with the CEO. What should I do? Just leave?

God imagine working DEI at Twitter 😂😅

How do I transition from a Senior Executive Assistant role to Project Management? Ideally I would like to work in tech. How should I go about this? I currently work in the Real estate industry so it would be a totally new career path. The reason I want to move into tech is I feel like many of the companies I see have the same values as me (diversity & inclusion) and a good culture is so important to me.

“I must honestly confess that I go through moments of disappointment when I have to recognize that there aren’t enough white persons in our country who are willing to cherish democratic principles over privilege. But I am grateful to God that some are left.” This quote is from MLK in 1968 about how he sensed the movement was losing the battle for the soul of the nation.
