Plus you can pretty much always get a seat without a reservation when it’s a party of 1. Call ahead with the magic words “I’ll eat at the bar & can be there in 5 min.” 😂
Take the subway to a part of the city that is new to you and walk around! I love doing that

The Met. Any park. Get lost in the central library. Explore a new neighborhood on foot.

Watch a movie. Golf at Chelsea Piers. Get a massage. Go to an expensive bar with a book and read while drinking. Go to a concert. Ride a jet ski at NY harbor tours. Pretend you’re a tourist and do a double decker tour bus. Go to the library- all the libraries from JP Morgan to NY Public. Pack a lunch with wine and a blanket and eat at Central Park. Do a virtual reality game/exploratory session. Watch a Broadway show when they come back. Try one of those wacky tarot card readings on the sidewalk. Paint and sips. Botanical gardens. Whale watching tours (yes, in Queens/Brooklyn). Museums. Nathan’s hot dog at Coney Island & contemplate your existence while fighting off seagulls. Cooking or baking classes. Book a nice hotel and swim in their pool for a staycation. This is NYC you can chat up random people by asking for directions lol

I love walking down the west side highway and riverside park
Take a ride on the ferry to Brooklyn Bridge Park. Get an ice cream at Ample Hills and bring a book to the park. Check out the Time Out market for a bite to eat
