Thoughts on Columbia vs. Tuck vs. NYU (60k)?
Ross or Johnson for IB
For context, I have a 740 gmat, high undergrad gpa (ivy business), and work at a well known consulting firm. I feel like I “check all the boxes” but I don’t really know what MBA admissions are like. Is it as competitive as undergrad?
Admission rates are not comparable across UG and MBA because the applicant pools are very different.
MBA admissions at the TOP schools are generally more competitive because:
1) There is a very small top tier (M7 esp. HS) for MBA so those are the schools that everyone is trying to get into. The premium for attending a top MBA vs non-M7 is much higher than say attending top-7 UG vs the rest
2) Grades and SAT scores are by far the biggest factor in UG admissions while top MBAs look for compelling stories, in addition to stats (UG admissions at top colleges like Harvard do this too, but it’s still to a lesser degree than MBA)
3) Related to above, your fellow MBA applicant is savvier than a college applicant. They’re adults and can strategize. They’re more willing to spend the hours studying for the GMAT and crafting those perfect essays, etc.
4) There is a significant reapplicant pool, which largely doesn’t exist in UG admissions, so you have a lot of competition from those trying again.
HSW is definitely possible with your stats/background but it’s all about now you craft and build your story
