Thinking about changing jobs, I still have another 2 (+3 extension) years left on my H1B. What has been people's experience with H1b transfer. Is it a simple process or could it have complications?

U r technically locking urself once the gc proces starts. I would quit, if I were u. I have only 2.5 years left in my h1b..still taking the risk. Can't work with a useless set of ppl ..

Mine in progress..know more than 3 ppl who have had no issues. It really comes down to ur wage level, experience and job duties.

Thanks EY1. I'm currently at a job where lot of people have left and the partner isn't the best to work for, so not sure if I should stick this out for a GC or jump ship if a job that allows h1b transfer comes through. GC is a ~2 year process for my country

Agreed with EY 1. Once the GC process starts it becomes difficult to move because there are pending applications, waiting period etc etc. You have to wait quite a while before you can make the switch. Not worth it if you are not happy at current job.

Agreed. Quit now..2 years is the wait time, there will be one year of bs before filing it

So without going into to many details... I just gave notice last week as my H1B transfer was approved. I interviewed in March and it took their lawyers around 2 months to collect, prep, file LCA and finally submjt jn PP to USCIS ( which got approved in 6 days). Other than that I have an approved i140 for the last 3 months, but this opportunity was too good to pass.

Also had 2 years left on H1b , which obviously got extended as the filed the transfer for 3 yrs- if that makes sense

It’s an easy process, if you moving jobs with a similar profile. If you are trying to jump to a new area of work from being an IT Analyst to PMO role, then there might be some questions but if the attorney can make a good case for you, it shouldn’t be a problem!

Thanks guys. For the people that have done it what was the timeline like for the process? I read somewhere that you can switch jobs as soon as new company applies for h1b and you get the receipt notice from USCIS. How long does the approval process take from your experience?

Also yes you are technically right that you can join on receipt notice, but it is advised to wait for approval. Atleast the company I am joining wanted to wait for the approval and applied in premium processing

Thanks alot M1. I'm going in for an interview this week, not sure how it's gonna go but I'm excited and nervous ( haven't interviewed in 3 years). But I agree about the risk of moving before approval. Hope you are enjoying your new role, congrats!

Chuck the whole thing in a 500F oven for like 18-22 min.

Accepted an offer to join a small mom and pop firm (~50 ppl) there’s ex big 4 there, I’ll be running implementations as a Director. At a tier 2 firm now (going on 4 years) only a small pay bump but better title. TC could be much higher as they claim to pay a high bonus. Don’t start until end of July, and haven’t yet put in my two weeks. Sort of regretting the decision to leave. Feels like this would prevent me from getting to big 4, MBB or similar sized firm later down the road. Thoughts?
