But why? You’d be better off in Security domain IMHO
Better off in what sense though?
Do you mean cloud architect/engineer or cloud security architect?
Ideally that’s what should happen, but unfortunately it’s not a reality. Plenty of guys call themselves security architects, but yet don’t take the time to understand the how/whys/requirements of the design.
OP, so the learning curve really depends on your current background. Saying Cloud is similar to saying, I want to do IT. A lot of different areas and specialties. You can transition full time into cloud, but would you even like it? IMO a lot of security jobs (I don’t know your background) say they’re technical, but that doesn’t translate to technical in regular IT. If you’re already familiar and have the ability to build multi-tiered architecture systems/applications then the transition is not a big deal. If you are not that familiar, but have the drive and willingness to learn, then you could probably get up to speed in a year or two. Learn enough to get your foot in the door. Start by getting cloud related certs in your field of interest. Be sure to lab things up if you think you want to be hands on. Imagine doing that for your day to day. You may end up not enjoying it. IMO it wouldn’t be a difficult transition as cyber covers cloud. Once you get some cloud terms on your resume then you can start looking around for full time roles. You just have to be able to back it up.
