Thinking about going back to school and getting a masters, but nervous being out of an agency for 2 years will negatively impact my career. Any thoughts and/or advice?

Have you thought about part time? I’m wrapping up a part-time master’s right now and, while it’s been challenging to juggle both and a huge exercise in time management, I’m glad I didn’t remove myself from the workforce for 1-2 years.

Ditto, I went back part-time and am finishing up my masters now. It hasn’t always been ideal in terms of workload but it was a lot better than going back full-time and being out of the workforce for 1-2 years.

Do it part time and get your agency to pay for it.

Do you think having a masters will help you advance quicker in media? Only one person in my dept has a masters and it hasn’t done anything towards pay/promotion

I don’t, but hoping to one day be on the client side

A lot of agencies do have some form of tuition reimbursement, even though it may not be widely publicized and known by employees. My shop caps reimbursement at $5,200 per calendar year, but any amount helps.

Plus, in a part-time program, the students often have more work experience. So much to learn from and new connections to make with fellow part-timers.

Looking to transition...

Currently in a specialized sales leader role and in the next 3yrs I’m wanting to take my skills/knowledge/experience independent and start a sales consultancy business. I have a niche I plan to focus on but was wondering what can be the pitfalls or things to be aware of going independent?

Any fellow independent consultants on here?

College savings question: I have a 4 year old. Here in Pennsylvania, I can deduct a whopping $30k a year in 529 contributions from my state income (married filing jointly). I already have $50k in the plan. Should I invest the max for the next two years, then slow way down or even stop, and just let compounding do the work? I have curren cash flow and savings to do it, and taking care of college now might allow me to take a lower paying government job, which interests me.
