Thinking about having a baby just to take the paternity leave 😴

I just discovered that Zelda: Ocarina of Time, a game that enchanted me for weeks on end when I was a kid, is ~25mb in size. I honestly can’t believe it—I’ve filed docs in court that are bigger than that. Also, this has nothing to do with biglaw other than that learning how to use emulators is what I’m doing during the tech slowdown. Just beat the Deku Tree!

Anyone else feel very anxious? I am 8 weeks and struggling to even get out of bed because I am just so overwhelmed by general, non-baby focused anxiety. I feel like I’m losing my mind!

Safe to take approx a week off for an overseas vacation as a second year? Sprinkled in with random fridays off for weddings throughout the year?

My hesitation is bc I took 4 weeks off for honeymoon/wedding this year as a first year. Won’t make hours either.

I have been running a particularly difficult program for almost a year now and my GCL lead will just nooooott tell me I’ve done a good job. She will rave about work others have done but no recognition for my leadership, ideation, shepherding, execution, etc. I can’t tell if this is just her personally, my need for affirmation or a lack of self promo. Does this happen to program managers often or am I just a baby??

(My friend is working in DS and I got to know that the policies are not good and organization is forcing people to come to office and they are not easy to adopt).

Also there is some discrepancy going on. Need your suggestion.

Looking for some advice. I'm 35 turning 36 soon. After 2 months of trying with my husband, I got pregnant. We were so happy until finding out 7 weeks later we miscarried. My doctor is telling me to wait another 6 months and keep trying. Then we would start looking at fertility and going down that route. I am being tapped to translate documents at work. I’ve done spot translation audits, and 1 larger Quality assurance document earlier this year, but was recently contacted about a potential large-scale translation initiative for next year.

Has anyone been compensated for these sorts of projects that would be “out of scope” for their role? How do you go about asking for compensation? Have any of you spun out and created translation service side-gigs?

This question might anger some, but not meant to be provoking. Does anyone else feel that half the jobs in tech (scrum master, project manager, product manager, etc.) are more hindering than helpful? I feel like productivity would sky rocket if we didn’t have 10+ hours a week added of admin work/agile ceremonies/status meetings, and you just let developers and analysts do their job. Why are we spending hours learning how to estimate story points (for example) rather than improving production?
