It will definitely satisfy 1 out of 2 of those things... but if people sniff out the sales angle for you joining, you’ll be playing a lot of solo golf. Make friends first, clients later
I belong to a private country club and have been a member for a long time. The club is where I go to get away from Sales people and to unplug. If you’re good enough at what you do, they’ll seek you out. Do not join with the idea that you’ll gain more clients by doing so.
It works great as long as you're patient. If join and immediately start asking everyone to lunch and coffee, you will be seen for what you are, a sales guy. Most members will have an advisor already. You have to play the long game, be active and don't be a drunk dick. People will ask what you do, play it cool. People with money will smell you a mile away if they think the only reason you're there is for business.
Example: we had a NWM guy join our club and within weeks had called every member in the directory. He picked up a couple small clients but lost tons and tons of big business in the long run because the membership basically shunned him. He left shortly after.
