How do I find a list of series C/ D+ startups? Any good sources that are free? A plain google detach doesn’t yield good results.

Maybe look up the large VCs, see which company they are in, and look those up on crunch base

likehelpful

B2B cloud companies e.g. Salesforce, Snowflake, Microsoft to an extent p.s. not biased at all 😬

likefunny

Later stage companies like Brex or Instacart that may grant higher equity with lower base or more vesting limitations (like all or nothing). Or join a place like Snap and Dropbox a few months ago when the stock was beaten down. Or series A/B startup that you think can 5-10x and is willing to grant 200k or more in equity. Engineers who got 300k equity grants a couple years ago at Coinbase would have 1.5-3M if they stayed till IPO. Obviously some luck is required Make sure the shares granted are calculated and locked in at time of hire vs at time of vest. Stripe no longer offers as much upside through their updated vesting

like

Can you explain the strategy on snap/ Dropbox with a low stock price?

Series D+ pre IPO that you think will do well. Personally will be joining one soon in that stage. I think more exciting than a cushy FAANG job depending on where you’re at in life

like

Perhaps look into series C and later startups that have clear paths to IPO

Thank you! Will do some research!

I would look into the tech B2B companies that aren’t going anywhere, and will likely keep growing. Salesforce, Workday, Okta, Atlassian, etc.

Salesforce and workday have even less upside than FAANG. Compare revenue, margin and profit per employee at FAANG vs post-ipo enterprise company. Pre-ipo whales like stripe have decent upside. In the enterprise space, databricks, fire bolt, Miro etc. One strategy is to get crunchbase pro for a week and make a list of companies to apply.

like

How have you calculated the upside when comparing FAANG to non-FAANG? Between the high base salary, RSUs, ESPP, employee discount, other perks - the only way I see a non-FAANG being more lucrative is if they offered a LOT of stock pre-IPO and then had a perfect exit in the short term.

Yes, if the TC pay band for the role does not grow as quickly as the stock. Usually when a company is mature, they grant equity based on a target $ amount which is then converted to share count vs % of company converted to share count

I would target market cap / valuation and not whether its pre or post IPO To me, less than $5B companies have the most upside (i.e 10x). Note any of the top of tech has 2x potential

MCK i am going to DM you

Stripe and PayPal.

A bunch of the attorneys dropped not so subtle hints that people who work from home are causing all kinds of problems. I don’t know what to do.
