Thinking about making the leap to Toronto from NYC. My gf is Canadian and wants to be near family. Relative pros and cons?

If you are working from home then yeah fs, its worth it.
Much peaceful than NYC

If you can still make USD salary, moving to toronto with US money is definitely a plus lol like KPMG said above. It really depends on what lifestyle you want to live.

Toronto's just like New York but without all the stuff.

I moved from NYC to Toronto
Salary is way lower than US, no way near comparative even taking into consideration health insurance
Toronto housing can be expensive .
You need a vehicle
Generally, I say cost of living is round about the same as NYC with less salary. It's colder but cleaner and I think less crime

like

@KPMG It really depends on your lifestyle. I find the TTC with subway + bus + streetcar pretty thorough. I grew up in Toronto and lived in both the east and west end and don't even have a license to drive. But if you're the type to leave the city on long weekends etc then sure, a car is something you need for that. And if you're used to the convenience of cars it's hard to use just transit, but the system is pretty good (we def need more subway lines though).

Salaries are much less than US!
Cold cold cold!

2400? Lool thats less than the avg 1 bedroom. Avg 2 bedroom in Toronto is over 3k easily

Cons: much less salary, higher taxes, expensive rent/real estate

Pros: much nicer people, work life balance, peaceful city

How much less salary?

I personally love the cold so I never list it as a con.

However, Toronto public transit is horrific compared to NYC (unless you live dt, then the streetcars are great! haha.)

Everything else, everyone's already listed.

besides salary, i dont know what other cons could be. cost of living will probably be similar to NYC. weather isnt all that different except we have more extremes here (its both hotter/more humid in the summer and a bit colder in the winters).

i'd say the metro is way better than the TTC though. we only have 2 subway lines. streetcars are slow as fuck and so are buses.

as for toronto being 'walkable' lol definitely not, unless you think toronto is literally just King St.

I'd love to know where you live that isn't walkable. Not that the whole city is perfect but I live in midtown and have a loblaws, shoppers, dollarama, restaurants, cafes, schools and churches a 5 - 10 walk away. And the busses and subway are also 5 - 10 mins away. You don't have to just be downtown to get convenience. I feel like so many people who move here as adults focus only on downtown and forget the rest of this huge city exists and has lots to offer.

Hi everyone! I am in a kind of a tough situation right now. I got a job opportunity in the Netherlands who have already given a joining date on 11 May. My current company is in India and the notice period here is 60 days. I have already resigned and tried to convince the management to reduce it to 30 days but they agreed to 45 days. But this will collide with my new joining date.
Is there any legal action or repercussions if I cannot serve the 45 days notice period? Thanks in advance!

Hi! I have worked in management roles in tech, mainly in analytics, for approximately 10 years. My TC has fluctuated (currently around 135K CAD), but it seems like it's relatively easy to breach the 100K bar, but hard to breach the 150K bar. I now work at the CBC, but I have worked in the private sector too. What is the most realistic way to move to 200K? 1) Continue moving the ladder to a VP position, 2) Switch to Pre-Sale, 3) Switch to Consulting, 4) Work from a U.S. company from Canada.
