Black People In Consulting

Thinking about moving from ATL to DC. Good idea? I’m picky and looking for a wife, Atlanta seems to be too entertainment industry driven. Will it be more of the same? 32/M

OP. Where do you tend to hang out in ATL? I find that to be the most challenging in this age group. I don’t hang out like I used to, so there’s the grocery store, the gym, the airport. 😂

Out of the places you’ve mentioned I must say there appears to be much potential at the grocery store.

There's a lot of non-superficial women in Atlanta too! You're just hanging out in the wrong places. I've lived in both and they're just so different. Only similarity is there's a lot of black people lol

Yeah. Atlanta is superficial (both for men and women). I have been thinking about moving to NYC or DC myself, just to change the scenery... even if temporary.

I made this move last year. Totally worth it. I know exactly what you mean about Atlanta’s superficial nature. Whereas the network of people here in DC is immense. You meet so many international professionals across global firms. And the women care about success and career goals. Happy I moved here. I’m flourishing.

I’m a guy though OP, and I was just having fun with it. Real talk though, the women in DC, MD, VA are real and many are also looking to settle down. Plus they come from all over so lots of good options and different flavors.

I think it’ll be a good move. From my time in Atlanta, I’ve noticed the focus is around materialism and being the center of attention. However, in DC it’s more about being successful and growing.

Shoot me a note OP. 35F in Atlanta. There’s a non entertainment, flashy crowd. I moved back to Atlanta a year and a half ago,

37 F from Atlanta here. While I agree that there have been many changes for the worst, and it does have a superficial entertainment vibe to it now, there’s also still a very substantive group of folks who care about their careers and making their lives matter in worthwhile ways. You can find your people here, if you look. Please don’t paint us all with such a broad brush because I think that, too, contributes to the issue at the heart of this thread.

Obviously we are not all the same. I was just explaining my perception of the vibe after spending the past 7 years here. Obviously there is more here than aspiring rappers/ig models/artsies.

There are a lot of professional ladies in the DMV who is career driven and looking for a husband. Definitely visit and check the scene out before committing to a move tho.

I’m pretty diverse as far as hangout spots go. I’ve been off the road for the past 2 months and am reexploring the city. Not impressed so far.

Same here. I didn’t go to school here or have a network of friends and friends of friends to rely on, which makes a big difference.

I’ve spent about 10 weeks in DC over the past three years and my experiences with women seemed much different than they are in Atlanta. Who knows if this will change if I move for good.
