Pros- Sunny weather year round (even if you are enjoying the sun from your air conditioned car, helps with overall mood
-No state or local income tax which is huge if you're a relatively high earner
-Not woke, I'm from NY and came to a point where I couldn't take my kids into the city, I take my kids into downtown Miami.
Cons
-Too hot and humid for a good amount of the year
-Very expensive for an area that not SF, NYC, LA. Traditional two floor spacious homes tend to be north of a million.
- Very dangerous driving, cops really don't pull people over all that much. My husband was on the highway and there was a driver going 100 mph and there was a cop right there, the driver did not get pulled over. People will cut you off changing into your lane and you have to stop short the last second possible, it's really really bad and I wish there was more traffic enforcement.
The no wokeness is big. Crime has gotten out of hand in LA. Especially in the areas that were as of recent history considered safe.
It’s hot AF all the time, lots of traffic, reckless driving, people are rude and many don’t speak English
Born and raised boss! Hahaha

WE DONT LIKE NEW YORKERS. I find them to be arrogant and self obsessed. Like the world revolves around them and New York. You don’t see us moving to New York. Don’t New York our Florida
“Don’t New York our Florida”, truer words never spoken!
The market in Miami is tough right now for both rent and jobs. A lot of transplants competing for everything. I personally don’t like the traffic. You might not be sitting for awhile in stop and go, but people are wildcards and never use turn signals.

Also the number of cars with curb rash, dents, missing bumpers, etc in my garage is absurd
The main thing I don’t like about Miami is LA transplants

You met them and they call you babe or say I love you within a minute 😐
I’ll be honest, I’ve lived in Miami my entire life aside from 4 years of college, can honestly say the people here seem uniquely rude when compared to other places. I see tons of comments on driving, which are all true, however, for me it seems the attitude of many here are just self centered and vain. Also before someone comments to “Just leave Brickell or south beach”, I don’t reside in either of those areas and have lived in Dadeland, Kendall, midtown, etc… There are some amazing people here don’t get me wrong, but the general population is rude. My two cents? Its pretty divided, some will be die hard Miami fans and swear by the city, others will be counting down the seconds to leave. Good luck in the decision either way!

I wouldn’t. I lived in LA, New York, now Miami, me and my gf are waiting till lease is over to leave.
Ton of reckless driving, people are generally slower than what I’m used to, job opps are limited and salaries don’t justify the market rents, food is salty af here
Both things are missing in Miami.
Miami is great, people think traffic and rudiness is only in Miami, is everywhere. But we have great places, beaches, great weather, and many things are coming to Miami. It will only get better.
Also, Miami is not Brickell and Brickell is not Miami.
People complaining won’t be happy anywhere.
I’ve lived elsewhere but grew up here so I know traffic and rudeness is unique to Miami 🙃

Everything is amazing, LA has terrible drivers too so I wouldn’t through Miami under the bus for that. I would recommend the neighborhood of Midtown Miami or coconut groove or Dadeland. Brickell and south beach are basic.
Except for those that work for Pollo Tropical HQ or live in the area, there is not one good reason to visit Dadeland.
I’m joking :)
Working on moving to Pinecrest, so looks like I need to get familiar with Dadeland area.
Why do you want to move?
Seems like all the right reason to move. Miami in that sense sounds like a better place.
Miamian here… trying to leave Miami. Go somewhere else where my money goes a longer way. If you don’t mind the cost of living, high traffic and hot weather then its okay. If you are making good money where you can afford a decent home where you don’t need to put an insane amount of money or rent at crazy high prices then go for it. It all depends where you are in life.
Honestly, can't deal with all the Miami people hating on everyone trying to come down here. I've been living here for almost 9 years and can't wait to get out. So pretty much the worst thing about Miami is the people...and the beaches suck.
I lived in LA then miami. Loved LA, but love Miami more BC of the LA experience. Perspective is everything here. Prices? Better than LA. Driving? A little more disorganized but Cali isn’t great either. Distances? Way better in miami. Traffic? Getting worse but nothing compared to LA. You’ll miss real Mexican foods and the ability to day trip the fk out of any weekend. Come, enjoy it.
All Miami people gatekeep and will tell you to stay out. Nothing good comes out of LA or NY folks coming here
Miami is fun, exciting, exhilarating, vibrant yet congested. Awesome technical opportunities but recent road expansions and housing availability has made it a nightmare. I am a local of the 305,786 and the changes are REAL!! However, Miami in no shape or form can have an LA comparison, please do not move here with the expectations of being in a pseudo LA, this is a way different VIBE😀
People moving from other places like NY and CA
As a Miami, Florida resident for over 30 years, I say please don't. For residents, we already have a housing crisis, with most residents having a $100-600 rent increase last July due to buyers flooding our market, making it impossible for us to afford to live where we've been living for decades. Can you imagine your rent/mortgage going up $600 from one month to the next without a matching income increase? It is already hard enough to get decent housing without out of state competition. The same house in my childhood neighborhood that was $1400/ month just 3 years ago now costs $3300/month.
Traffic is extremely congested regardless of the time of day. It could be 6am or 9pm and you could be stuck in heavy traffic that spans 4 counties (Palm Beach, Broward, Miami-Dade, Monroe).
The job market isn't great, unless you're a teacher. I do a lot of work with schools, and Miami-Dade County Public schools has a 400+ teacher and support staff shortage. But overall the cost of living doesn't match the income scale. Even a middle class family requires two incomes at least in order to afford to live here.
Don't do it.
The people in Miami are nowhere near as nice as Cali, actually the complete opposite.
There is very little work, that could be different depending in your field. The pay scale is garbage.
Florida is now the most expensive state to live in given the wages cost of living ratio. The traffic is just as insane, and then of course the politics.
Have to agree. Came here from LA three years ago and we're going to give it a few more years before we move on, but we're pretty unhappy.
Why? The people in Miami are just... terrible. Nobody here wants to say why, but I will.
There's a preponderance of upper-middle and upper-class South and Central Americans living in Miami. These are people who live like kings and queens in their home countries. They grew up with maids and cooks and drivers and gardeners and have generally never wanted for anything in their lives, nor have they ever been told "no." That breeds an inherent selfishness and vanity that threads its way into every aspect of life here.
It's why people in Range Rovers cut you off on freeway on-ramps. It's why people don't hold doors open for you. It's why people cut the line at Publix. It's why nobody picks up their dog crap and why nobody shares the sidewalks and why nobody uses their turn signal.
There are terrible people in every city but we've never seen a concentration of wealthy people with such breathtakingly bad manners as we seen in Miami. Three years in, we continue to be shocked on a daily basis by the behavior here.
Perpetual sunshine and there is always something to do is a plus. Brush up on your Spanish, it goes a long way. Everyone is right, the driving is absurd. Cost of living is also pricier then most places. Both negatives.
