Thinking about moving to a mid tier firm to make a run at partner. Anyone else have a similar experience they can share?

Definitely happens, I’ve seen some truly average people make it after leaving b4 at senior manager

like

Honestly, this is probably one of the few good reasons to move to a mid tier from Big 4

No personal experience but I seen it happen a lot, I worked at a top 15 mid tier prior to Deloitte and our ex-Big 4 employees were treated like royalty

like

You can also make a run at partner at big 4 and if you get pushed out at senior manager, then go to mid tier then as a director and spend 2-3 years there to make partner

like

I’m not really close enough to them to put you in touch but I saw like 3 senior managers do this a while back from the firm I was at and they’ve all made partner since.

WFH lawyer looking to move anywhere between Denver- Boulder in late October. Would like to stay as close to the mountains as possible. Looking to spend about $2k a month though that can vary depending on what utils are included. Not sure if I'm better off in a house or an apartment situation. I see a lot of nice apartment communities but a lot of them have terrible reviews. Any thoughts? Recommendations? I'll be in Colorado in early Sept for 2 wks so planning to go see units then.

This is the most basic question, so yep, I’m asking you to take it easy on me when you reply. I have been practicing for about 5 years total. I have been in civil practice for 2 years. These 2 years have been the most demoralizing, unfulfilling 2 years of my life. I have been giving myself pep talks to find the “positive” spin on it but firm life isn’t for me. I know networking is key but do you have some thoughts/suggestions on how to make an exit...crying at therapy is becoming too much.

Additional Posts in Accounting Exit Opportunities

Currently a senior in financial services audit for wealth and asset management. All I hear from higher ups is to not leave before manager because I’ll end up making less or I’ll be behind in my career, etc. Am I being served some strong kool aid? Hoping someone has been in a similar situation and successfully left.

I’m going crazy in Audit, I’m an A2. I think I’m going to try and transition to consulting. Would it be smarter to stay within the firm or go to a new one, and is there a half-step I should take (such as going to TAS for a year or so) before going into consulting? I just want more exposure to companies I work on than just the audit, it doesn’t feel like stuff I’ll be using in 5 years (but I’d be happy to be proven wrong on that). Business strategy/biz dev is catching my interest recently.

Any other managers having a hard time transitioning out of audit and into an interesting role with a fair salary and a 40-hour work week? I receive the daily influx of blanket messages from recruiters on LinkedIn but it’s exhausting trying to sort through them.

Open to staying within an accounting and/or advisory firm, just bored with audit at this point.

So I had an interview with a company (3 rounds actually) which went pretty well. I even rearranged my schedule for last minute interviews because it’s the job that I really want. My recruiter said that they all love me & even wanted me to speak to the CEO. Then they needed a few days to speak with another candidate. After a few days, I was told that they needed another day because the other candidate couldn’t interview with the department lead. I’m really worried now. How should I take this?
