Not sure if you are art or copy, but the go-to art freelancers my shop brings in charge $85/hr. They have the experience to be CD level, but that’s not the level of work we bring them in for. They are helping to keep jobs moving and executing on changes, and depending on who it is we sometimes will have them join in on a concepting exercise. In my experience, I’ve never seen a CD level freelancer brought in to do CD level work. I’m not sure what your expectations are in that regard.
I’m a CD level writer but I get brought in for everything from pitches to annotating—doesn’t matter to me as long as I get my $150/hr.
Im ACD/GCS and my rate is $115.
Make the jump, more money with none of the bs is such a rewarding thing
I don’t have a ton of experience, but I freelanced for a few months. Full time i was making 70k. So, I charged about 50 an hour because I had to factor in not getting paid 8 hours a day, not getting paid on holidays, and also health insurance costs. It seemed to be acceptable. But you’re a creative Director so you’d charge wayyyy more than me haha. I guess all I’m saying is that it’s good to factor in those things.
I know Copy Sups make $900 day rate or $100+ per hour so $1200ish day rate or $150/hr for a CD sounds right to me
Our large shop pays 125/hr for CD level creatives. Mostly for concepting and execution of video and pitches. But we’ve brought in ECD level creatives at ACD levels of pay (110-115/hr) and had them doing executional stuff and more hands on. Tough to find that level of help, (art/copy supe) because it’s just not what good mid level creatives want to do. So be prepared to get your hands dirty actually having to write medical copy, annotate and such. Or if you’re an AD, be prepared to dig into your Adobe skills which hopefully, you’ve kept sharp.
BTW, it’s the OT that really piles up.
Pharma CDs that we hire make 1200 a day. NYC, big healthcare agency.
