How about somewhere where your friends are? When’s the last time you spent New Years with people important to your life. Best friend, family etc I’ve spent mine in Denver last too years had a blast! I go because my best friend lives there, NYE is a rare time their calendars match mine.
Two*
The answer is rio. It is amazingly huge party on the beach, delicious food, fireworks, live music. It’s the best. Have been there 3 times. Gets better every time. Better book the hotel now. We have stayed at the Sheraton in Leblon twice and at an apartment in Copacabana once. Both are good experiences, but I would suggest a hotel with a nice pool area. We definitely missed that when we stayed at the apartment
Nyc sucks ass
Absolutely avoid NYC. It’s freezing and full of drunken tourists.
Looking for somewhere festive, although it doesn't need to be party scene, somewhere in between would be nice, but do like places I can see a good fireworks show.
For context NYE I've celebrated with a vacation since college so I've done a good amount of the popular US cities: NYC, New Orleans, Atlanta, Chicago, Nashville, Napa, Miami. I did Sydney a couple of years ago, but now I'm stuck.
Places I've heard great NYE things about for different reason: Vegas, London, Bali, Hong Kong, Bahamas... All very different places so it'll be good to hear other recommendations with reasoning why it'd be a good option.
I’m either doing Aspen or Switzerland, making it a skiing trip.
If you really wanna ball out, head waaaay north. Like, Lapland Finland north. Mostly dark the entire day, sometimes you’ll get to see the northern lights. It’s epic- I went a few years ago with my family. Not alps kind of epic, but totally unique
Unpopular opinion: NYE is overrated.
Skip it and go hang out on a beach somewhere.
Thanks D2. I thought about Rio, have you been during this time? I hear its busier than Carnival so super hectic.
NYC. Go big or go home.
because standing around in a corral and peeing in a diaper is your idea of a good night?
Montreal is a blast for New Years
Oh that might be good didn't even thinking about it, thanks!
Iceland! Reykjavik has an amazing fireworks show, and it’s a great time of the year to see the northern lights
Aww good points!
Ghana! It’s the year of return ☝🏾
Colombia is super fun for NYE! The entire country shuts down and celebrates in the streets of Cartagena. Everyone wears white and dances with fireworks. Amazing food, people and culture. Best NYE ever!
Love going to Colombia! Friendly as heck populace. My first visit (apprehensive) was a VERY pleasant surprise & I’ve now been about 10 times. All on business however, no NYE involved.
I do recommend seeing New Year's in NYC once if you haven't already.
Agreed i wouldn't do it again but I think it is a fun once in my life but never again things to do!
New Zealand, it’ll be warm and one of the first places to ring in the new year
Sydney or London!
Thanks OW1!
For New Year? Sydney is the place to be!
Already done Sydney, loved it, but wanting to go somewhere new.
Japan, Tokyo or Kyoto are nice for new year
Thailand if you want to head somewhere warm, recommend Chiangmai
Dubai is awesome. Can get touristy, but still worth it
Thailand
Pittsburgh. Great art scene. Good food and dive bars. Pittsburgh for sure
