Depends on where you live and where you foresee your projects. I would fly Delta but they don't do direct flights from BOS to ORD and no amount of perks is worth layovers, especially in the winter with delays.
As much as I love American (I'm executive platinum), they suck at reacting to delays and cancellations. Whenever I've been stuck or delayed I just booked myself a ticket on delta and got off the ground faster and with less stress. .. But delta's frequent flier program does suck.
Love united 1k and those 6 GPUs you can use on Lufthansa
I'm currently Platinum on American and was thinking of status matching and switching to United for this year. Why do you want to get off United?
Yea I'm rolling off this week so based on my next project location I'm going to decided whether or not to switch. American is switching to revenue based miles mid year though.
AA, UA, and DL will all have rev-based miles by mid 2016. It really depends on whether you plan on reaching the highest status or closer to mid-level. AA Exec Plat is the best elite status to have and redemptions are the lowest of the pack. Delta platinum is the best mid tier. United really isn't great. Home airport is a big consideration too.
Also, it comes down to what you value most: getting upgraded vs. redeeming miles. If you can tolerate United customer service (or lack thereof), it's not a bad option.
