Thinking about switching to a mid market PE firm? I want to work more than I am, but how gruelling is it to work 12-16 hr days consistently?

Wlb varies by fund but generally the closer to lmm the better the wlb. Wlb is highly variable depending on deal flow. I have friends in lmm that work like 50 hrs/week outside of live deals that push closer to 70-80. They do a few deals a year and push hard for 1-2 months/deal.

If you’re looking at umm or megafunds your relaxing wlb is probably closer to 60 hrs/week, but you’re going to be crushed with deals consistently

EYP is dead on. LMM and MM are ~60h (but very limited travel). When closing deals it’s ~80h

What’s your current role at D? I can’t think of a group within B4 that would enable a move directly to a PE that isn’t already putting in those hours.

Those are normal consulting hours

Reach client at 8 and work until midnight. Of course there’s lunch and commutes included.

Strategy- worked with big banks and defense companies. Spoke to a recruiter and she thought it would be a good fit. Just said I would need to learn to model / they’d “teach” me

Worst I’ve done is 20 on a Sunday (once), and 60 consistently for 3ish months. Thanks for the insight everyone, super helpful!

I (36F) am married to another woman (34F) and we have a baby (5moF). We split all childcare, cleaning, meal prep, errands etc fairly evenly and it works well. Maybe she cooks more than I do bc she likes it, and I clean more bc I need to have a clean house. My friend (35F) recently took a business trip and literally put a binder together with instructions for her husband re: daycare drop off and pick up, what to feed the kids, when to take out the trash and so on. Recruiter reached out a few weeks ago about an ER role. I don’t have the finance background but want to pivot. I had a first round interview that I thought I bombed but I got a second. Did a stock pitch that was fairly good, didn’t know all the technical questions tho. I followed up day of, and recruiter asked to have a quick chat next day. She asks me about salary & availability to start and says she’ll try and get an update from the team. I haven’t heard & im wondering if I got rejected

Should I renege offer from MBB?

An MBA recent grad. I signed with MBB last year. However, I have always wanted to do tech PM. I couldn’t find PM job in Fall and just signed MBB offer I have. I recently got an FAANG offer. It’s PM function, hard to break in with consulting experience. I declined the new offer during interview stage and again after they gave me initial offer, but it is coming back with 80k more in annual compensation. It made me so torn!! Should I renege MBB offer?
