I think it’s worth it if you tinker around in 3D CAD software and design your own parts. You’ll get tired of it quickly if it’s just to make a phone holder, case, etc. Ny friend has it and used it to create a face mask, fake revolver, etc. I bought and used to have a cheap one but didn’t get a lot of use out of it.

It’s good for manufacturing things that would be a pain otherwise with a traditional mill or lathe. My dad has used ours to make a few QoL widgets for around the house and some misc stuff for his engineering work.
I’ve been meaning to use it to print spare Glock and AR mags but never got around to it. I think it’s most important to have some use cases in mind first and maybe a track record of making stuff, bonus points if you have CAD experience already.
Your post just solidified me buying one.

Friend’s husband has 3D printer for his own projects. She gets him to print out custom cookie cutters and etc 🤷🏻♀️
