It sounds like it will give YOU confidence. HOWEVER, how many of your clients will be able to tell you what that designation actually means? NONE. IMO, make Jones pay for it in a few months. Keep DKing until then and carry on. It can wait 4 fucking months and save you $800 in the meantime. You're welcome...

I don't have the AAMS and I'm 7 yrs in and it hasn't mattered. I plan to do the CFP within a year

Nobody knows or cares if you are an AAMS pro. The only designation generally recognized by the public is the CFP. Do some more prospecting with that money. Have some seminars. Buy a list. Buy some nice new shoes. If you want to do it now, call someone at home office and see if you can get an exception to take it early. You never know, they might do it.
