Thinking of giving notice this week with last day being July 30th. I have vacation time for a trip to Puerto Rico already approved from the 17th to the 21st that I can’t cancel. What is the likely outcome of me giving notice? Firm likely expects it or won’t fight me on it. Will they even let me close out the month?

Honestly I would give notice and then “work remotely” during your vacation. At most places you cannot take PTO during your notice period, and I wouldn’t want to risk them telling me to GTFO sooner than expected. Once you give notice people basically leave you alone and stop expecting you to do anything, and if they do just tell them you’re busy.

Depends on the firm and your relationships but if you’re taking a trip I’m sure they aren’t going to want to pay you for not being there when you’re going to wind up leaving haha

I have a very similar situation except was planning to take 2 weeks when my wife delivers. Hoping I can stay on for my three week notice period/until she delivers and then I’ll take my 2 weeks unpaid.

Check your employment contract. As for me, depending on the employee, when someone puts there two week notice in, I may fire them on the spot...pay them the day, and all their unused PTO next paycheck. If no guarantee of getting paid unused PTO, depending on the state, if it is not in the contract.

Guessing MP1 means offer letter or handbook. That’s where any notice period and any related voluntary termination info would likely be defined.

Might be a long shot, but wanted to see if this bowl could share any wisdom/insight. A friend has been offered a role as an independent contractor commercial counsel for a pre IPO tech company in NYC (roughly 10-20 hrs/wk) with the possibility of becoming a full time offer. He has roughly 3 yoe and was at a V10 firm doing tech transactions work but took time off for health. Would appreciate any insights into what a reasonable hourly wage would be to offer up in negotiations. Thanks in advance!

While my management definitely has flaws, my bosses are kind people, I learn from them, and I have good WLB (45-ish hours a week, 3-ish weeks of vacation, great flexibility and autonomy with these things). Have an offer from Amazon at the same level (Counsel) with comp around 320, but I understand WLB is generally poor for lawyers. I was miserable in BigLaw before going in house, and (cont’d)

Finally hit my breaking point. Been nothing but irritable & pissed off these past few weeks. Coach asked me on Friday when I’ll be taking time off & I just broke down. I’m a top performer & a workhorse. I’ve put so much effort into making sure my team is okay I forgot about myself. Now I am buried in work, performance is dropping & I can’t stop crying randomly. I kept telling people I am drowning but no one was listening. Coach is leaning to tell everyone to backoff thankfully.

Have folks been able to take vacation lately? I feel like work is nonstop and “unlimited” vacation is basically meaningless. Hard just to take a few days off work, let alone to have an actual 1-2 weeks break from work.

I interviewed for a full-time role (remote) but it was later revealed it would require relocation. I am not wanting to do that and they said I could come on as a contractor. The vendor I would go through provides benefits (medical, dental, PTO). What would be a realistic hourly rate to request/negotiate? I want to get as high as possible but also don’t want to settle for less than what I have to. For context, I am at 165k right now and the role would have been a pay cut to 135k (full-time).

Found myself in a conversation with the branch manager (white male pushing thru his late 60's) about holiday decorations. I just told him how I've been directed by corporate to keep the winter holiday decorations as non denominational and he nearly exploded. Starts saying how Christmas is the "American Way" and "nobody is going to take MY Christmas" and "this is MY BRANCH, I will decorate for CHRISTMAS" and so much more. I'm just flabbergasted, frustrated but not surprised.

Is there a way to phrase answers in an interview to get the positions?
