Dead serious. As a 1st yr consultant, you are the rarest of breed.
1.5m%
@op, you do realize we're all messing with you, right? If it's truly "VP of Strategy OR engineering" then someone is jerking your chain or these guys are batshit and will fold in a few months. That's like "we want to hire you as Victoria Secret Model OR linebacker."
1.5M
10M is not a lot at all. Keep your demands small and humble. But if this is just round A and things continue to grow, accept a smaller salary and request more equity
I like how they can't decide between VP of Strategy or Engineering because they are such similar disciplines
VP of strategy or Engineering. It's an Israeli company and they are opening their US office next month. They are looking to scale their US operations - strong focus on technology and sales (B2B)
@ey1 for the win
I've seen "small" startups burn through $10M in a couple months. That they're operating in multiple countries suggests that they will have higher cash burn as they'll have higher overhead (need HR in two countries already, probably multiple building leases etc.). Do they have any revenue? How long will their cash on hand last?
It's like in banking where everyone is a VP
In a company small enough anybody can be anything.
Serious? If yes, what's your basis for the number?
What role would you join as?
😂😂😂 $10mm sounds like a lot but they will burn through it fast - they look for people who are hungry and will take less now for a promise of a payoff later - "demand" might be a bit iffy
1st year consultant? are they hiring for a janitor position
Thanks! What's a reasonable equity?
Small startups are not the place to go to get paid.
I like how they are considering a consultant level person for a VP position
You can tell who the career consultants are from the answers here... You all have no idea what OPs previous experience has been and you seem to ignore the fact that many of today's most successful companies, from small scale all the way up, were started and are run by people with little to no experience, let own in consulting.
OP - it depends on what you want out of the job. If it's money, walk away. If it's experience with the possibility of money then wait for them to make an offer. In this case it's probably more appropriate for them to set the anchor because it's going to be high risk high potential regardless. And if you also for something too aggressive they might just tell you to eff off. After they give an offer, it's totally appropriate to ask what the equity sharing is like within the executive team. If they don't want to share that, walk away. Assuming they do, baseline off that.
Demanding in benefits? Honestly, just stay in your current job
