Thinking of leasing a studio to save an extra few hundred bucks per month on rent. Is it worth it? Never lived in a studio but hear mix things about it. Those who have, do you regret it or is it doable?

I have for many years and honestly always felt I had all the space I ever needed. Though I don't have any dining room table (just desk for work/eating.)

Only reason it won't work is if you ever expect to invite others over...a studio will usually feel very cramped if more than 1 person is in there

It worked when I was 24-26 and traveling every week for work, and out all weekend Thursday through Sunday either traveling or partying around the city. I always stayed over at boyfriend‘s places if I was in town for the weekend. Essentially, it was a place to store my belongings. I cannot imagine it if you plan to spend any amount of time at home. I felt FAR more relaxed and peaceful when I upgraded to a one bedroom. I also got a lot healthier and started spending a healthy amount of time at home, cooking, hosting friends and visitors, etc. Bottom line, it was good for a short, poor phase of my life, but I don’t think I’d do it again.

Ah gotcha. I’m that age now but I’m WFH.

It drove me crazy during the pandemic (working, sleeping, eating in same room basically). I’d do it when life goes back to normal and you’re traveling frequently etc!

Agree with this. I felt like I couldn’t mentally transition between work and life because I was in the same place all the time - I worked at the table I also ate at, next to my couch and my bed and in the same space as the kitchenette. Now, having moved to a place that has dedicated rooms I feel much better being able to physically separate spaces. I can work in one room and then walk away from that space when I’m done and want to relax.

Depends entirely on the layout. If you find a studio with a good layout, the extra savings are definitely worth it

like

I also think the layout is important. Mine is set up with an island in between the kitchen and the living space so it’s all open, and I also have large windows and great light.

Thanks, BDO and Editor. I’ll keep layout in mind when looking
