I am back and forth over whether I made the right decision. Pro: I feel valued, both in the way people treat my time and the way I’m compensated. Con: I am still embarrassed to tell people I switched over.
Truly the only con.
Still reminding myself that I want to buy a house, have kids and maintain some sanity by not having to “go to war” every day. Pharma affords me those things.
Okkk. I’ll go. It really depends what YOU want. If you are still interested in more traditional advertising and pushing yourself further on those terms, you may want to try a different traditional agency. If you feel like you have accomplished everything you wanted in traditional advertising, then stick with pharma. I do understand what you are saying about the pharma stigma, particularly when talking to traditional ad folks. I will say, happiness has a way of silencing haters. Peace of mind is worth a lot...
If you're coming from the consumer side, you'll be shocked at how absolutely slow everything is and how long everything takes to get creative reviewed by clients and approved by medical legal review. And the FDA regulations definitely limit the creatives versus consumer advertising.
That said, it can be pretty amazing learning about cutting edge medicine coming out in the next year or two, and learning about case studies on how a breakthrough drug can impact lives and, yes, save lives. Shoes, soda, and mobile phones are cool and all to work on, but learning about the products I've worked on in pharma and how so many have improve people's lives is kinda nice for the soul comparitively speaking.
I love pharma. It’s not as boring as people have you believe. We still do creative work, just with some safety info at the bottom
Truly wish I never set foot inside a pharma agency... the only thing good is the money
I’d say go where the need is. Pharma, health and Wellness need good thinkers to lead the change. So come on in.
Came from CPG to pharma and I think it’s one of the best choices I’ve ever made. Still do super fun consumer stuff on the side, but now I sleep better knowing I’m actually helping people every day. Pharma is much more difficult to do as a side gig, especially with little experience.
Honestly in my opinion it comes down to the agency and team you go to. My current pharma gig is a hot mess and makes me regret it ... but I know other shops and teams are sooo much better. Find a spot and peeps you feel a grove with and you’re good.
Don’t do it!
DTC or HCP pharma?
