Every day is a rough day. No day is a good day
I’m so depressed
Yes and none of the above happened. I simply felt so much better! If you get on the right ones, “you’ll feel like yourself again.”
Everyone, thanks for this. This is really helpful and settling. I think this dark view has been so long that I feel like it’s me, but I do remember the happy go lucky version of myself from college that I can’t believe I ever was... I want that back.
I know exactly what you mean. The dark feelings become comfortable in their familiarity. Go out and get the real you!
I take Zoloft and wish I had started it many years ago. wonder drug IMO. Still me but happier and much less little shit bothers me.
I was really scared of that too. I did a lot of research and most depression meds are okay. There are options out there for you - Wellbutrin and lamictal have hardly any weight gain risk. It’s the mood stabilizers that have a higher risk of weight gain. I told my doc that it was a big concern of mine and we worked together to fine the best fit. Just be really clear to your doc that this is not just concern and it’s something that you don’t want to compromise on - it’s important to you. If you have a good doctor they should listen.
“Me not being me” was so much worse when I wasn’t taking meds. Crying all the time, withdrawing, and not wanting to get out of bed definitely aren’t me. Medication may actually help you find yourself again
I have struggled with serious depression and anxiety for years. Zoloft used to work then no more. Doc tried several others. Now I’m on lamictal and feel like myself again - have my resilience back. No side effects. Be very careful if you go on then decide to stop. Serious side effects unless you taper very slowly.
You may want to ask your doctor about Wellbeutrin. Typically takes effect within 4 days. Common side affect include weight loss and increased libido to boot! This has to be one of my all time favorite drugs.
And no smoking! Same exact drug as Chantix! Reminds me of - it’s a floor wax...No it’s a dessert topping....No.......it’s both!
it was difficult to get off the medications but then again I was on SSRIs and they are no joke :/
I took them long term and Zoloft is notoriously rough withdrawals. Not sure why but eventually I felt better when I wasn’t on anything. They really helped when I was unwell. They were kinda eh not bad not good when the depression / anxiety were in remission. They were awful when I was adjusting the dose lower and lower to get off them completely (with doctor supervision! Note to OP: never adjust your own meds)
Thanks D1! Could you guys kinda help me understand “the change”?
Also your libido might change and that was kinda hard for me to deal with lol. It can either way either Higher or lower. I’d just say being aware of overall body changes will help because then things seem less strange and you’re expecting it and you know why it’s happening
Ok - the “me not being me” is total bullshit. Same person inside; only able to cope better. NOT happier! But ADs are sometimes a long time proposition - I’ve tried to get off them 3 times and remembered why I was on them. Try therapy. Then meds if needed. IMHO. I don’t even play a dr on tv.
