Thinking of switching from core assurance to risk assurance. Which one is more marketable? Pay difference?

Do it. Way better hours and slightly higher pay. I'm Risk Assurance and literally thank the heavens I decided not to go Core. However, it is probably less marketable since we don't really work with finances/accounting

Over time I think risk will be, but for now core.

@pwc2 is it? Where do you start?

I work with accounting/finance all the time in risk assurance

Risk assurance all the way!

The pay is a little better and the hours aren't as bad in RA. Also the engagements tend to be much better organized and planned out from core engagements I've helped on.

@OP, start telling your coach your interest in RA, and inform HR as well. Then they'll try to put you on a RA job where you can get some experience, i think from that experience, they'll see if you can do well~ after that you can make your full transition.

Partners or whomever can help me understand about billing and hours. To keep things simple, let’s say you only have one staff to work 1,700 billable hours a year on a $60k salary and you have only one job that and the rate charged to the client is $300/hour and an projected hours budget of 1,700 hours. So ideally you would have revenue of $510k. If the staff takes less time partners make less money and if they take more time partners make more money while the staff keeps the same salary?

Tax question - I make about $200k and get half of my income from a W-2 and another half from being an independent contractor. Because, I’m subject to pay both FICA and SECA taxes. Do my social security taxes get capped on amounts paid above the ~$140k threshold across both my W-2 and 1099 incomes or am I out of luck and have to pay more than that since only about 100k of my income is FICA and the other 100K is SECA (which is subject to ~12% overall including the ER portion)?
