Third year international arbitration associate. Have been working in a small boutique firm in Paris since I was sworn in. Can I make my way into Big Law or is too late at this point?

Are you an American JD? Those jobs are hard to find for Americans precisely because there is no specific need for a U.S.-qualified person on those matters. Assume you want New York pay scale. It’s possible but it’s difficult. The firms that do it are Wilmer, White & Case, Debevoise, Quinn and formerly Shearman. (I wonder what’s happening with the last one since EG left and passed.) Some Cleary too. You could find a position but it will take possibly years to find a good one. There just isn’t demand and firms don’t like paying American wages for no incremental benefit. Apply but be aware that some recruiters don’t like working with IA associates since it’s difficult to place them. Do get good experience where you are — it’s what will make those doors open down the road.

Yes, European offices of large firms are also an option.

You need to network. Do you speak Spanish? If so try firms NY and DC offices. DLA is building arbitration capacity in LatAm too - Mexico and Colombia among others.

Unfortunately not. I do speak Arabic/French though (maybe these are less pertinent than Spanish for firms NY and DC offices?)

I finally landed my first job as a jr AD at an agency! I’m so beyond excited but also terrified at the same time. Is there anything I should keep in mind starting off in this industry? Any secret methods that help you make it through critique with a CD?

Wow this group is quiet....... 🦗 🦗 🦗

This job would be significantly easier and more tolerable if I could just consistently bill 40-50 hours a week, but no, some weeks are 20 and others are 80. And I can’t even enjoy the 20 hour weeks because I’m stressed about whether I’m eventually going to get work lol.

Hello Guys,

I have received letter of intent from wipro on feb 15 and then I have shared my documents for BGV as per the request.
I was waiting for final offer letter, but yesterday when I called recruiter, she informed they will not share offer letter. LOI itself is the offer letter & asked me to resign and share the LWD, so that they can share appointment letter.

Can I go ahead and submit my resignation? Any thoughts guys if its risky?

Is the Newport Starbucks closed today?

Thoughts on this as a second watch? Should I expect a waitlist at ADs in NJ/NY?

I currently have a sub-date and itching for a second. A white face Daytona is also obviously at the top of the list but unrealistic to get this from an AD within 1-2 years. Any other suggestions welcome.

Hi Fishes,

l interviewed for Deloitte (India not USI) in January, and accepted an offer letter with DOJ of 25th April, later HR asked me to join on 11th April for which I agreed. Now I haven't received the revised offer letter or any links other than BGV and Pre-Hire form from Deloitte and now the HR is not even picking my calls or responding to emails.
Any advice on what to do?

ID people: Does the threat of a motion to compel only give new associates anxiety? I just started practicing and have a few cases where the partner I work with has just failed to comply with discovery requests and could care less about doing so.

Anyone ever file a reply in support of an unopposed motion? Have something I’d like to briefly expand upon, but OC didn’t file an opposition, and it’s an issue where the court can sue sponte make arguments for them if it feels like it.

Does anyone know if in a negligent supervision case against a school district if it’s any kind of mitigating factor that there was not enough money for the school to hire more staff? (Fight broke out between students and there weren’t enough staff to prevent injuries. They would have had more stuff, but there was no budget for it.) Any thoughts? I know the school is held to the reasonable supervision standard. Is it possible they acted reasonably given the constraints of the limited budget?

How many times would you your boss/managing attorney scream/berate you (not just frustration) before you quit? Some context: Yesterday morning managing attorney comes in legitimate screaming at me because I forgot (for the first time in over a year of employment) to lock the door when I arrived, he then brings up something that happened earlier in the week where I didn’t get clients payment info, instead emailed assistant to run payment since I’ve never been taught how to accept payment.

When a recruiter emails you at work, how do you respond? I feel like it’s stupid to use my firm email for that, but it seems like when I forward to my personal email and reply there, I never get a response?

Has your firm gone paperless? I'm trying to find rules for the retention of files in Maryland. Also trying to pick your brains about how your firm went paperless (or mostly paperless). I was to try to convince the owner of the Firm this is the best way for us to save space and money.

What advice do you have for a new attorney’s first appearance in court? I’ve been licensed for one month and didn’t have any prior experience in civil litigation so I have virtually no exposure and am not really sure what to expect—I’m going solo to cover for another attorney kind of last minute, its a pretrial conference in small claims court

At what point do you begin to feel numb (if ever) when you’re done trial and prepping for another trial in a span of 3 months, while mains full caseload of other active litigation cases? Should I be worried that I’m going from engaged and stress to numb and slightly indifferent? Or is this what it feels like to power through? I can’t gauge it anymore? And can’t impose judgment one way or another either.
