Oxford dict definition: denoting something that arouses respect or admiration Honestly those quality exits or pivots into 20hr 300k base roles are what hit that definition for me 😆 More respect if you can get there without having to suffer the 70+ avg...

Solid feedback^ Data Literacy -> Tableau public -> profit First focus on best practices (high level aggregation -> specifics), work with relatively clean data, then move on to rationalizing messy data, then visualize what was messy data, and at that point you should be fine to branch out into powerBI or any other medium.

Prestige is so subjective. I consider some boutique strategy firms more "prestigious" because they're more selective and won't just take anybody with a 750 GMAT who can apply a decision tree. Neither field is considered very prestigious by the general public. Both lose to elite software engineers, surgeons, "high-powered" attorneys, award winning journalists, professors and authors. Being top of your field is prestigious, but being in the top firm in your field isn't considered prestigious outside of your field. Being a sought after strategist > being a McKinsey partner. A good examples are Jon Katzenbach and Bruce Henderson. Neither needed their firms' names to be viewed as holding prestige.

I can say from a top business school it seems much harder to land in an MBB vs a top IB

like

Basically boils down to: - MBA -> IB are career switchers and their credentials in marketing or consulting likely do not apply - Associates self-select themselves out of the process, grinding the buyside life while you’re pushing 30 is different than when you’re 24 - Most importantly, buyside is looking for very technical (modeling) people. Associates are more managerial than analysts who are purely there to be slide/Excel jockeys and exactly what these firms need

The real winners in life: the people enough sense of self to not debate this on a Friday night

Depends on the BB and this is complete subjective - I’d say DB, BOFA, Citi, CS, UBS, Barclays are probably less/as prestigious than MBB - leaving GS, MS, JPM more prestigious

like

MBB no question. Popularity of IB is way down the past 20 years and the bar has to be lowered to fill seats.

Following for the memes tbh. But in all reality it’s a good discussion. My .02 is MBB due to versatility and seeing more ex-MBB in interesting places. I don’t think it’s a huge gap between the two though, both are very lucrative.

I see a lot more at the CxO level, at least it’s more publicized.

MBB > all but EB and certain BB groups in GS MS JPM

MBB no question

Is it just me or do I feel that brand-level consulting (e.g., product strategy) is more interesting, on balance, than management consulting? Hello Ladies, so I am seeing someone like we have met for a couple of days and now we are in different time zones. I am trying to talk and have communication but he only speak when he is free. Also, he always keeps on saying that he has a lot of work (MBB) which I get it, but should you proactively try and take out time to have communication especially when you are in different time zones.

I’ve been working in cyber risk in the federal sector for a few years and I’m finding I enjoy “advise” projects much more than operate/implement (I’m guessing on the implement piece since I’ve done pursuits for it and seen the technical sections, but I haven’t done the work). If I wanted to pivot into a strategy firm and stay federal (or government in general), what firms would be ideal? I’m not basing it off prestige (MBB vs non MBB).

Recently made the jump from mostly insurance defense work where my average billable rate was around $225/hr. Now the average billable rate is probably about $450/hr.
