This day off thing is just a publicity stunt.

If a company is doing something it’s probably for publicity. Take the day if you want one.

Is it really a day off if the firm doesn’t give you billable credit? You just have to make those hours up elsewhere.

Steptoe gave staff admin leave so it doesn’t affect their vacation or sick days.

What I want to know is how many partners emailed clients yesterday to say “actually closing today/Monday is canceled because we’re all in mourning over Dobbs.” I’m willing to bet zero. So that just means another day for attorneys to work as usual, just without staff support. Nice gesture to staff I suppose.

I don’t understand people who complain about having a day off. Do you want “never took a day off” or “defended the right to work every day” on your tombstone?

The complaining is that they didn’t really get the day off

It's a DAY OFF in BigLaw. I'd take it, even if you *agreed* with the SCOTUS decision. It's also realistic - after that decision came out, NOT A SINGLE SOUL in any industry, anywhere (aside from attorneys on pro bono cases related to abortion access) was productive on Friday.

Have you found it easier to show the same font/lockup on all logos or keep text and logo separate?

Last week I got offer from Infosys for the below skills and experience,

Skill - SAP BASIS Administrator
YOE - 5 years
Offered Package - 11.6 LPA and 1L joining bonus
Current CTC - 9.6 LPA

I feel like the offered package is too low. When the mentioned the same to the HR, he said this the maximum they can offer for the role.

Kindly suggest how much I can ask to the HR for the mentioned skills and experience.

Thanks in Advance.

I am a career litigation associate making the switch to corporate. I'm only two years out of law school, but my focus through school and now has always been on litigation. The change in direction is due to an opportunity that presented itself that I felt I could not turn down. The team I'm joining has stated a number of times that they are excited to train me and expect a learning curve.

Any tips on making the switch? For context, I'm joining a midsized firm with a general corporate practice.

Anyone else who feels that they want to step into the more analytical/executive/operational/financial side of business?

I feel that as a corporate lawyer, you’re mostly doing the necessary details to carry out someone else’s decisions (= EG the boring part of business). The most "strategic" advice you give is perhaps advising on a choice between transaction models.

Would only a law degree and big law transactional experience be sufficient to go into more traditional business roles?

Imagine a person lateraling into Big Law who has never had to do the billable hours previously. 1) What would be your best piece of advice? 2) What do you wish someone would have told you about billing when you started? 3) Is there maybe a book for someone entering the minefield on billing effectively and capturing time effectively? Anyone move from lit in regional mid-size firm (300+ lawyers) to big law? I like my firm but am increasingly feeling a desire to practice complex national lit in a larger market. We get interesting commercial cases but not the high stakes sophisticated/complex lit that goes to larger firms. Am I making too much of this? And do the downsides of big law outweigh these benefits? For additional context, I am fine with my comp and my hours are around 2200. And assuming that I could get in, of course.

I want to leverage my existing T&E big law experience to one day work for midlaw as a partner, making $300k-$500k, while billing 1500-1700, relying on associates, and focusing on biz dev/writing the remainder of the time. I’d like some degree of separation between work and life, with evenings and weekends mostly reserved for my family.

Is it possible to aim for a setup like this, and if so how should I work towards this goal while in big law and what types of smaller firms should I aim for?
