this email though– "...busy season to be defined as 9/12 to 12/31. based on client needs, may extend to 3/31. seniors/staff 50-55 billable hours." bc 6 mo of BS should be acceptable... 🙋🏼🔫

50-55 billable hours is barely busy season. I've hit over 50 a majority of weeks over the summer. If you are working 75-80 hour weeks for that long, then complain

like

Tax is feb to 4/15 and then again July to 10-15. Realized busy season is 7 months a year (then throw on provisions) 😔

like

Guys we should just stop with the busy seasons longer than 3 months. It's ridiculous. 6 months out of the year working 70 hours should be allowed only if you get to work 10 hour weeks the other 6 months of the year.

like

Oh my gosh stop complaining.... That is NOTHING...

like

@EY1: what LoS?! 50-55 minimum billable hours during BS, which usually equals 65-70 total hours. I'm venting bc the workday starting at 8am & ending at 9:30-10pm for 6 months is just lovely.

like

@EY2: Assurance, specifically Process Assurance (basically IT audit support for core audit team)

like

@Tax Manager 1: You're right & I wouldn't normally complain, but due to the lack of hiring A1s in our LoS/market, interim fieldwork and BS started in early June (as opposed to end Aug/early Sept) so it's more like 8 months.

like

My busy season started today and ends on April 17th.... And then I shall sleep. For months.

like

What practice ?

I'm sorry for you, my friend 😔

@PwC OP: ok, then that's your busy season. Tax and Core Audit have different busy seasons, so if you were in one of those I could see your complaint. But process assurance has busy season in the fall. That's a known fact. Get over it.

I know risk assurance got that msg

Amen to that! I have been on availability most of Summer ... So I have no qualms!

Possibly a very stupid question but here it goes: just accepted a an exempt position. I’m supposed to be working 40 hours a week and 1650 billable hours a year. Obviously it’ll be more hours during busy season. My question is am I still required to work 40 during non busy season as long as I get my 1650 throughout the year? Is that different from firm to firm?

We have lost an average of one senior/experienced staff per week this busy season. Yep, we’ve lost 12 such team members through March. That’s a 25% net turnover since the start of the year.

Not sure what it’s going to take to right the ship, but I’m considering seeing what’s out their myself.
