What you study in school is less relevant than your actual competence... feel like people keep forgetting this

likesmart

One of my favorite econ professors (at a school with no undergrad business program) liked telling students something along the lines of: You should only be here if you are truly interested in economics. If you just want to get a job in finance, consulting, take intro econ, take a stats class, etc. and then go major in something that actually excites you. Your grades will be better if you arent studying something that bores you and you will be a more interesting job candidate both on paper and in person. Undergrad major doesn't matter nearly as much as getting good internships/work experience and learning some basic important skills (e.g. nobody in "business" needs to know anything from a 4th year calculus based macroeconomics course... They need to understand basic starts, basic micro, and how to use Excel). President of my firm was an undergrad history major. Unless you are going to be something like a mechanical engineer that requires a pre-professional program... Just acquire the skills employers desire and then study what sounds fun.

Amazon definitely doesn't pay that for senior ops manager- she mentions in the video her dad was in finance, she's invested since she was 3, and the income cited in the video includes her investment returns

Based on that tax expenditure her base is probably closer to $110k, or about £85k. Which is still good, don’t get me wrong, but when you’re shelling out that much monthly for a flat you’re not flush with spare cash to invest. Either good options from AMZ are inflating that or parental help.

227 in London is like 150 in NYC

likefunny

As a New York City native (6 generations @ that) who currently lives in London, I completely disagree. My rent is cheaper in London, groceries are literally a 3rd of the prices or less, the Tube is slightly more than the subway, but the buses are cheaper and just as efficient + you get to people watch. It’s easier to live lavish in London! And don’t get me started on how cheap it is to fly around Europe (pre-Covid). Just typing this up makes me horrified @ moving back to NYC/America aka a 3rd world country in a Gucci belt.

Are you using your holy STEM knowledge on the job?

I certainly am, all the time. But it’s not what game you play, it’s how you play the game!

This video is incredibly obnoxious, especially the part about how she's going to start a website to show how anybody can make $227k in London.

Her website will include courses for purchase.

Are you saying because you got a STEM degree you're entitled to more money and someone with a Liberal Arts degree doesn't deserve to be successful in life? How obnoxious of you.

Oops, sorry for calling you out.

Bruh frankly most of her worth is available in ESops. She must be making £120k/year before taxes. That’s a lot for even a post MBA role in UK tho.

Right I looked her up on LinkedIn too lol

So I typically don’t answer the EEO questions at the end of applications that ask for race and gender. Lately I’ve noticed companies following up via email for this information after I submit the application. Am I the only one who does this? Does it even matter? Any thoughts on the follow up emails asking for the information after the application has already been submitted?
