This is a cringe question I know (just settling a silly debate with a friend) but is working on DDs/M&A strategy considered “high finance”

High finance literally means buying companies or public stock investing. IB and consulting don’t do that. We are advisory firms, not high finance firms

like

Lols! 'High Finance' is a term used to define roles that directly interact with public markets and securities. Investment Banking, S&T, Investment Management, Hedge Funds, and Private Equity would be the primary examples.

The positions you've listed, while they may be considered 'front office,' they are certainly not 'High Finance.'

Lol just saw someone yesterday on LinkedIn with “M&A | Investment Banking” in their tag. Worked at big 4 doing DDs 🤦🏻‍♂️

At IB1 are you saying they aren’t part of the same company?

Why does this matter lol

funny

Because this is what my friends and I talk about for fun

No. DD is a tick in the box very late in the process to make sure fundamentals are OK. Only done when everything important is secured (strategy, market study, financing) Practically it is a mini audit, without verification.

At krast this is how most in the so called High-Finance sees FDD. Last minute, cover-my-as, paper-pusling excersise.

like

FDD likes to make itself seem way more important than it is. People in my group act like it’s IB and partners like to go above and beyond in the hopes that the client actually thinks of us anymore than accountants/mini auditors. It’s not good and lot of people end up similar to audit in the sense that they want out because they thought it was more of a finance role. Definitely better exit ops than audit and many hope for Corp dev to officially rid themselves of the “accountant” title

Hi! I would appreciate any feedback. I just finished my final round of the interviewing process for another OCM role. I’m sure that they will offer me soon. During conversations with the recruiter, I was told that the salary would be around $75k (I make $75k now) with a bonus. Upon further discussion through my interviews with the team, I am learning that this is a brand new role and change management itself is a brand new lane for this organization. I have 5 years of experience, (CONT)
